Dropping out of PGCE

Hi I joined a scitt in September 24 and I am truly miserable I have had some time off signed off by a GP and I am thoroughly miserable. I do not want to continue with the PGCE and Scitt but may like to reapply with a different more structured scitt programme at a later date.
I will not have achieved QTS and I will be withdrawing. Would I be eligible for additional funding for the same Qts course again with a different scitt?
I will not be doing the PGCE element just the Qts? I don't think I'd be eligible for the funding or any student finance or would I?

I am sorry you are having a hard time. What is it that is causing you so much stress? It might be worth pointing out that there is not that much difference between university led and school led PGCE courses. You still have to do your school placements, lesson planning and teaching. The only main difference is much of the theory is in a university classroom rather than a school classroom.

Hopefully you get some time to reflect this half term. Good luck!

Thank you Hotpud. I honestly don't like the planning or the teaching at my school. It seems so rigourous. I've decided to apply for some TA jobs and go back to basics.

Rigorous planning is going back to basics. Planning does not come naturally and by planning in detail you are starting to set in motion the thought processes required to plan and deliver good lessons. My top tip would be to get hold of your schools resources in terms of activities and power points and then you can focus your planning on what you are going to do in your lesson rather than on making resources etc. It does get easier but takes time. The time you invest now will pay dividends later and if your school are rigorous, that will stand you in good stead in the future too. Going to a lax school is not the answer. You will simply develop bad habits.

Good luck if you end up being a TA. I note that Aldi pay about a third more than what TAs get.
