The op isn't going to be able to fit under his bridge soon if everyone keeps feeding him so much.

Our dogs not called that for her name but we call her blacky because shes completely black. Its not racist, if people think it is racist it doesnt bother me because its a dog, not a person. And im not racist.

Oh God when I was at school my friend (whose family were incredibly racist) called their black lab n***er. I found out when we walked him in the park and she was shouting it out, so mortifying. Suffice to say I avoided walking her dog in the future.
I don't think Blackie is racist, but maybe not the most sensible name to choose, just because of the connotations of the word and how some people could interpret it.

People shouldn't give in to political correctness though. :p: There's really nothing wrong with Blacky. The dog is black, that's it.

It is according to some knob head at work.

My brother has two dogs a labrador called Blacky and a German Shepherd called Darky, owing to their shiny black coats. This came up in conversation, and it was immediately denounced as racist by the resident gay militant in the office.

I just laughed at first, but the gay was serious. It's hardly as bad as that dog on Dambusters is it now?

What are people's thoughts?

There used to be a dog on my street called Blacky. The owner was cool and I didn't find it racist at all, and I'm black.

Coming from you, however, yes, it is racist. I quote your signature:

"White always makes the first move. Black pawns can't wait to get their greasy hands on a white Queen. **** off back to your own square!"

You're calling black people dogs. Yeah, thats racist.

My dad named his dog "Blacky" when he was little, because the dog was black. Just like some kids will name dogs "Curly" or "Shorty". I don't see how this is racist at all.

Great names for a dog, I wanted to name our black lab yohan after my very afrikaans second uncle. (he isn't very fond of the blicks)

He's a gay, ex-Mossad agent, hairdresser isn't he? :p:

are you aged 4-6? Cos it sounds it by the names you've come up with for your dogs.

Nothing wrong with having a mental age of a 6 year old.

I named my four hamsters Howard, Nibble, Sniff and Hammy Ham. :p:

Not at all racist. But some might think that referring to someone solely by their sexual orientation (i.e. "the gay") might be considered homophobic. I cant even believe I am the one to say it, but I'm sick of people getting at me for my supposedly politically incorrect manner of speech when of course no malice is meant. I thought I would get in on the action and see what pointing the finger feels like...

... its overrated.

Racist...or species-ist...Hmm.

perhaps you should get your gay friend and your dogs together, ask the dog infront of your gay 'if you have any complaints at your current names, say so now, if not we cool?"

That should be enough to persuade him me thinks.

Is it ageist to judge a thread by how old it is though?

I cannot believe this is true, but thanks for the laugh.

"Is it racist to call a dog Blacky?"

You should be fine, just don't teach it to sieg heil to heil Hitler. 🤔

Let's list things that make this thread feel old.

When this thread started:

Gordon Brown was Prime Minister. David Cameron had not at any stage been PM.

Google Chrome had only just started.

"Glee" had not yet come and gone

The second iPhone had only just come out

Myspace was bigger than Facebook

Memes were not really a thing as we know it. The Trollface ragecomic and Willy Wonka meme had not happened yet.
