qmul law or gap year?

hey so i got an offer for qmul law but everything that ppl r saying abt it is putting me off that its not prestigious enough its barely a russell group, law recruiters prefer students from other unis etc. i thought that since qm is known for their law dep that total rep of a uni wasnt more important but apparently i was wrong... so is it worth it taking a gap year and reappling for lse/ ucl/ kcl?

problem is im not sure what is best... i like qm bcz of the campus but i just saw ppl saying its not prestigious enough and law is alr so competitive im scared my chances of securing a tc is lower

I feel you I have offers from Exeter and Nottingham but I know I can do better, I got rejected from kings but I am waiting ucl or Bristol so I think taking a gap year and reapplying with my alevels and more extracurriculars I can do in my gap year is better

Ignore notions of prestige. QMUL has a good law school. Big firms and chambers recruit university blind. Go to QMUL, have fun, work hard.

Nah most city law firms don't look at university (CV-blind), and those that do will be happy with QMUL. I have like 5 friends at QMUL who have secured Magic Circle TCs in second year, so it's definitely just up to you once you get into the university.

They might have less career events than the bigger London universities, but they still have prestigious firms coming in. I know this because one of the friends I mentioned is on the committee for a society that partners with elite law firms.

I mean you could do a year out and apply again, but only if it makes sense to do so (e.g. you're planning on applying to elitist firms, QMUL is too far East, you think you have a strong chance of getting one of the other unis if you do reapply, etc).

Queen Mary is a good uni and has a great law school. But it’s always up to you if you want to reapply. All universities are good but it also depends on you and your work ethic. I know someone who is a barrister and they went to the university of Northampton for their BA which isn’t a Russell group. You could always do your masters degree at another university.

I heard that you don’t need to do a masters to be a solicitor?

I had AAA predicted and 77777766 GCSES, I did get a contextual offer so maybe that's why you are still waiting. I'm sure you will get an offer for law

I said elitist firms, not elite firms. Some firms (usually US) are just very selective, even firms that might not be as good as Magic Circle. MC firms tend to have fairly open and merit-based application processes.
