gyg of a future cambridge vet student ˚ʚ♡ɞ˚

Hey everyone!

My name is Kate, and after reading loads of gyg’s i’ve finally decided to start my own in the hopes it makes me for accountable for studying for my A-Levels!

I’m currently a Year 13 studying Biology, Chemistry and Maths (predicted A*A*A*), and here’s how my application has gone so far:

Cambridge- A*AA: Offer! (will be my firm)
Bristol- AAA: On hold
Nottingham- AAB: Offer for April 2026 (will be my insurance)
Liverpool- AAA: Rejected post-interview

I’m also a police cadet and own a veteran competition horse in full-time work, so that will also most likely feature haha

I really look forward to posting here, and of course if anyone has any questions about vet med, A-Levels or Cambridge i’d be happy to help! <3

Hey! I’ve just made this account as I finished college this year doing the same A levels as you!
I got an unconditional offer from Cambridge for vet med not long ago and just looking to find friends! Not much to do apart from work and enjoy the last of my freedom as I’m on a gap year before starting in October.

Nice! What college do you have an offer from, and what did you do on your gap year? ☺️

I’ll be going to Girton college! What about you? It’s very far out the city but I got really attached to it when I was choosing which one to apply to!

My gap years not been the most interesting, no travelling or anything 😒 I didn’t decide to study vet med until very late into year 13 so i had no time to do my volunteering before the early entry, so I decided I’d take a year out and give myself some time volunteering at a vet clinic and a dog kennels. Apart from that, I’ve just been working in a hospital lab and just enjoying life

How are you finding your studies?

Aww i’ve visited there, and that sounds like a really good use of your time, and I applaud you on figuring out what you wanted to do, I forget how easily I have it and how lucky I am to have always known what I wanted! I have an offer from Magdalene

I’ve found my studies quite good, I’m also incredibly lucky that I found GCSE’s quite easy so was able to breeze through them, luckily through places like TSR I realised that A-Levels were quite a big step up so from the get-go in year 12 I was quite on it, I wish I still had that same motivation now but just need to keep pushing and be absolutely sure i’ll meet my offer, but i got A*A*A in my mocks after revising the day before the exam for each one, so i have yet to start panicking, I doubt i’ll be saying that still in April though haha!

A day off for me today! I don’t tend to see too many of those in gyg’s but it’s definitely important to take breaks and avoid burnout, feeling quite motivated now to crack on with the rest of my half term revision

I didn’t do nothing though, spent the day with a security company’s canine unit, working with GP (‘bite’ dogs), EDD (explosive detection) and DDD (drug detection). Learnt lots, saw some bite work and explosive area search demonstrations, as well as getting to handle some detection dogs and get them to identify the TNT/drugs (I was very suprised they listened to me at all haha). So interesting to see how they’re trained and just how different they are to most dogs, it’s amazing how intelligent and driven working dogs are, I’d love to be able to work with them more in future

Got to have one of my very rare lie ins as i’m always up early to be at the yard on weekends 🥳

Started the morning reading, then after driving to the stables and hacking the pony (he had his first canter since having his hocks injected with steroids):

- made notes on year 2 period 3 elements as my teacher doesn’t have time to fit it in
- synapse exam questions
- blurted thermodynamics and biology topic 7

hoping to do some more blurting, work on integration because i’m very weak at it and write a 25 mark biology essay tomorrow!

First day back at school and coincidentally 100 days until my first exam! I got a lot of rest in the half term and feeling really ready for the final push

- Parametric equations with trigonometric identities questions
- Electrochemical cells questions
- Period 3 elements questions
- Differentiation revision

Also gave the pony his first proper jump in quite a long time and he was shockingly well behaved!

Very much more of the same as yesterday, but practice makes perfect 🤷*♀️

- Differentiation by parts and chain rule
- Period 3 questions
- Forces and friction questions

26/02/25:

- Product rule practice
- Made epigenetic notes
- Primrose Kitten AS Level Biology Paper 2
- Did all of my mechanism flashcards (wrote the name of the mechanism, reagents and conditions and drew out the mechanism all from memory)
- revised biology required practical 1

Also filed away all of my topic tests and mock papers, i can’t believe i’ve done that many in a year and a half 😭

27/02/25:

- Quotient rule practice
- Optical isomerism questions
- Electrochemical cells questions

Not too much today but i was at the yard and cadets from the end of school until 9pm so i didn’t have much time haha

28/02/25:

- Chemistry paper 1 past paper
- Taught myself pacinian corpuscle as my teacher was ill
- Pacinian corpuscle exam question
- Wrote my essay on the importance of ions

01/03/25:

- Photosynthesis revision and exam questions
- Wrote up my essay onto paper

Not the most productive today but that’s okay, today was the first day of being on DIY livery so had to set up all of my hay, straw and feed setup and go out to buy feed and storage as this was all previously supplied for me when I was on part livery!

Tomorrow’s (ambitious) to-do list:

- Bio paper 1 practice paper
- Electronic configuration
- Bio required practical 10
- Integration

- Electronic configuration questions
- Integration revision
- Biology required practical 10 revision

03/03/25:

- Mutations exam questions (during the actual lesson because all my teacher does is waste time 🙃)
- Born-Haber cycles exam questions
- Gibbs Free energy change exam questions
- Enthalpy definitions recall

Got my Thermodynamics test tomorrow if you didn’t sense the common theme of today, feeling pretty confident about it! I have this dream of getting full marks on a chemistry test as i’ve been one off so many times, maybe this is finally the one haha
