Hey! I’ve been accepted into Glasgow university for September this year. i’m tempted to leave school now (February) and work full time to save and drop my advanced highers? i’m struggling to make the decision and was wondering if anyone has any advice?

hey im not like 100% sure this is true so you'd need to double check but few months back i wanted to do the exact same and this is what people told me, i think they can take away your offer if you dont finish ur subjects. you could try email the uni and say what they say tho

Hi there,

It's great to hear you have applied to study here at UofG.

As this is a live application, we require you to get in touch with our Admissions team as soon as possible. Our admissions team is available via Live Chat Monday through Friday, 10am—4pm (UK Time) (https://www.gla.ac.uk/study/enquire). Just click the purple speech bubble located at the bottom right-hand side of the screen.

To give you some personal advice, I would keep in mind that the university year doesn't start until mid September, so you'd have plenty of time to work and save over the summer. Also, even if withdrawing from your advanced higher's wouldn't affect your offer (please check this as I'm unsure!!!), is it worthwhile giving up all the work you've put in so close to the end? Would the extra qualifications keep your options more open for the future?

I understand that financial pressures at uni can be quite daunting. In my experience, as long as you budget reasonably well and properly utilise your student loan towards the important things (and not just nights out), the cost of living is completely manageable. There's lots of options for part-time work at uni as well, whether it's hospitality, retail, online tutoring or working within the university.

Hope this helps and best of luck!
