Panic

What do you do when you start to feel a panic/anxiety attack there? Like it might happen but it might not. Like you just feel on edge and one tiny little push could send you into said panic? I feel like right now I'm either going to start panicking or at some point I'll get pushed over the edge and panic possibly at a less convenient time. I don't know if this makes sense but hopefully it does. I also can never really tell what will bring on an attack as I'll be ok and thinking and then suddenly it hits without warning and there's nothing I can do to help it.
Any advice?

I just try to breath and zone out from the surrounding area or when I'm in school step out of the room

The problem is if I actually do have a panic attack I don't know it's happening until it's started. It just comes on very very quickly and suddenly I can't breathe
Hi there,

Panic attacks can be really scary, and very tiring too and it sounds like it comes on very unexpectedly for you which can cause some anxiety. It's really great that you've felt able to reach out for some advice here, and are actively looking for ways to try to manage.
MIND have some really helpful information and advice around anxiety, panic attacks and what helps to manage:-
https://www.mind.org.uk/information-support/types-of-mental-health-problems/anxiety-and-panic-attacks/panic-attacks/#WhatHelpsToManagePanicAttacks

If you find that you start to feel a panic attack coming on, and are unsure what to do - it might be helpful to check out No Panic. Their service has a helpline that you could consider speaking with to talk through what's happening for you, how it feels and get some more personalised advice around coping (0300 772 9844, 10am - 10pm every day). With their helpline number - if you do call during the night, or call 01952 680 835 (anytime), the first thing you'll hear is their Crisis Message - this is a recorded breathing exercise that can help you through a panic attack - so this might help to take some of the pressure off you remembering what to do, as it will talk you through step-by-step? If you did find it helpful you could save that number in your phone so you can just click straight into it and give them a ring.
You can also access the crisis message at any time through their website here:- https://nopanic.org.uk/panic-attack/

If any of this is leading you to experience thoughts of suicide, please know that HOPELINE247 is here to support you. You can call us on 0800 068 4141, Text 'HOPE' to 88247, email [email protected] or webchat with us at www.papyrus-uk.org and we're available 24/7 💜
