Which choice for media/film?

So, I have 5 offers back from universities and now the hard part is picking a firm choice. I have offers from Bristol, Royal Holloway, Kingston, Portsmouth and Kent. Kent is going to be my insurance as they're asking for MMM. I now have Bristol, Royal Holloway and Kingston to nail down for my firm options. My offers at Royal Holloway and Kingston are DDM and Bristol want DDD. I know Bristol in terms of having a reputation are recognisable to employers, but does it make that big of a difference? Will it be a better choice than RHUL or Kingston for my chosen industry?

What is your chosen industry?
Film or another form of media?

Are these practical 'how to make film' courses - or the academic study of film as an art form?
Do any of them include any sort of work-experience or study abroad?

Hello there,

It's great to hear that you're considering choosing Royal Holloway as your firm choice! To find out more about the specifics of the course you've applied for, and get a first-hand student perspective, why not have a chat with one of our current Media Arts students. You can chat to a current student here, and just filter by 'Area of Study' and select Media Arts. We have three film students you can chat to, who can each provide a different perspective on their course.

We hope this helps!

Best wishes

Hi,
I hope you are well!😊

It's great to see that you are looking to study here at Kent! I've loved my time here, and I've been involved with lots of extracurriculars and part-time work too, so let me know if you have any questions about the opportunities available to students😊

Just a few things about BA (Hons) Film and Media:

Film at Kent scored 91% overall in the Complete University Guide 2025.

A typical offer for this course is BBB.

The best of both worlds! The course allows students to explore both film and media, and allows students to choose modules which suit their interests, including social media, film sound, and screenwriting modules.

Students have gone on to work as theatre producers, theatre journalists, drama teachers, and community theatre officers for local councils, to name a few.

Kent has some amazing facilities and resources, green screens, including live performance spaces, film production studios, lighting and sound facilities, for students to explore and make their own content!

You'll be studying on the beautiful Canterbury campus, where everything that students need is all in one place! Kent has a range of accommodation to fit different students needs. Be sure to browse the accommodation and ask us any questions you might have!

Lastly, Kent is launching a new curriculum and approach to learning, timetabling and assessment in September. Releasing timetables early will allow students to plan ahead for part-time work or other commitments they might have. The term structure is changing from 2 to 3, to allow students to explore less modules each term, but in more depth! Assessments and examinations will take place after module content is taught, to ensure students are best prepared for their exams and coursework!

I hope this helps!😊
Let us know if you have any questions!
Best wishes for your exams! 🍀

Best wishes,
Josie

Hi @aimicub

Congratulations on your offer!

Personally I don't study film or media here at Kingston but I am part of Kingston School of Art and so have seen the great facilities they have for film and really enjoy the creative and collaborative atmosphere at the Knights Park campus. There is a river running alongside the campus which creates a nice outdoor social space, as well as the student bar being based there and a great library.

One of the main reasons I chose Kingston was the location, with it being so close to central London I have found there are so many great opportunities like internships and lots going on creatively in terms of exhibitions and events.

The art school does have a great reputation in the industry and I know on my course there is some great industry links and the careers team and lecturers keep us up to date with opportunities that come up within the industry.

I will leave some links to previous posts I have done that you may find useful.

Why Location is Important When Choosing a University - The Student Room

I would really recommend going to an open day or an offer holder day for as many universities as you can. They give you a good insight as what it might be like to live and study here as well as providing an opportunity for you to speak to students and lecturers. You can find out more about Kingston's open days on the website Open Days - Undergraduate - Kingston University London

If you have any questions feel free to ask
