Not great to be honest. I’m a mature student so I’m hoping for a contextual offer. I got a B in maths and C in English almost 10 years ago and this year I’m doing an access to higher education course.

Did you get an interview?

It seemed like it went well to be honest. The interviewer said that I did well but they go by a points system and he’s not qualified to make judgement.

Why pharmacy? Why Brighton? Which subjects I enjoy. An example of working well as a team and finally an ethics question, which was - what would you do if a colleague spoke about a patient loudly on a public train?

Oh really, that was everything? Thanks for sharing! I’m an Access student like you.

Haha, that’s great! At least they found it funny, better than awkward silence! 🤣 25 minutes isn’t too bad at all.
Yeah, I’m an Access student too! It’s going well so far, definitely intense but interesting. How are you finding it?

Yeah that’s what I was trying to avoid🤣

I’m glad it’s going well for you! It is super intense and I am slightly behind because of surgery last month but I’m catching up.

Update though, I just checked my email and Brighton have offered me a place! They want 30 at distinction.

That’s amazing, congrats on the offer! 🎉 I hope you’re doing okay after your surgery. Did they mention anything about your personal statement during the process?

Thank you so much! Yes I’m getting there:smile:

They did not, he explicitly said that he knew nothing about me and that he hadn’t read my application.

Honestly my personal statement was less about my skills and more about me as a human being. I can share it with you if you’d like? I did mention my work experience in a pharmacy but only for like two sentences.

The balance between science and patient care is what initially drew me to pharmacy. As someone who is immensely fascinated by the depths of chemistry and biology, it has made me extremely devoted to strengthening my knowledge of the two subjects. Pharmacy is a career in which the learning never stops and that is a huge factor as to why I have chosen this pathway. The ability to improve and transform lives has made me inspired by the role that pharmacists play in ensuring effective treatment for every individual. As well as my love for chemistry and biology, I also believe a career that helps people is something that resonates with me. Having spent years in hospitals when I was a child, I came to recognise the different roles that make up the NHS. I realised then that I had a desire to work in a healthcare sector. Spending a lot of time in hospitals meant that I was also on several medications, because of this I would often go to my local pharmacist. The pharmacists there have watched me grow up, they showed me that there is more to being a pharmacist than just handing over medication. There is knowledge, there is kindness and there is understanding. During my current study of combined science, I have rekindled my love for chemistry, from the fundamentals of chemistry to structure and bonding, I have absorbed it all. Being a mature student means it has been several years since I sat in a classroom and learnt about science and even then, it was at GCSE level. Studying chemistry at level 3 has made me so much more interested in the subject as a whole. The depth and the intricacy of chemistry at this level made me realise how much more there will be to learn when studying at degree level. Biology has always been an interest of mine. Life on earth can be explained with all three science subjects and studying biology involves learning about how any of it is possible, how life perseveres through pandemics, global warming and other factors that may cause life to cease to exist. It explains how survival works and how improbable, but possible it is for me to be existing today. I can imagine that you are wondering why I have narrowed my choice down to a degree in pharmacy and the reason for this is not only because of my love for chemistry but also because I have done extensive amounts of research as to what my future would be like if I chose this pathway and I see myself furthering my education and completing a post-graduate degree in precision medicine. Pharmaceutical science is the study of discovering, developing, and producing medications. Pharmacy is the study of preparing and dispensing drugs with the ability to be face-to-face with patients. This is why I have chosen to study pharmacy over pharmaceutical science. Whilst the research and the development of drugs is extremely interesting to me and important to the advancement of Pharmacy as a whole, the patient care involved in being a pharmacist is what makes MPharm the better choice for me. After completing work experience at Boots Pharmacy, the decision to choose pharmacy as my degree was finalised. I learnt about an interesting new healthcare service that has been implemented across the UK. Pharmacy First is a service that allows patients to receive treatment for minor illnesses directly from their local pharmacist, without the need for a GP appointment or prescription. The recent advancement and innovation in improving the healthcare system is something that stands out to me. A career in pharmacy will give me the opportunity to learn, to discover and to make a difference to the future of medicine. I am aware that this degree will be extremely challenging, that I will have to push myself every day and I have spent a long time considering all the relevant information to make this decision. If given the opportunity to study pharmacy, I know for certain that I will not, under any circumstances, let myself down.

I considered using ai haha but I really wanted to humanise myself.

It took me about 7 drafts, several different people giving me feedback and me rereading over and over again.

I got a C in English but I didn’t try, I studied for about 3 days😬 I have written novels and been an avid reader all my life. I just don’t do well at exams.

I’m so sorry to hear that:frown: what are your qualifications?
