Hey, so I'm a 1st year at UoGreenwich reading English Literature, and as part of my first year got to choose 30 credits of optional modules (so 1 module lasting the whole year).
I chose Mandarin, which is split into 3 levels at Greenwich: Mandarin 1 (absolute beginner), Mandarin 2 (post-beginner) and Mandarin 3 (intermediate), with each level corresponding to a respective HSK level (so Mandarin 1 would bring you to HSK 1 level, Mandarin 2 to HSK 2, and Mandarin 3 to HSK 3).
As a 1st year, I was placed in Mandarin 1 by default, but after one session, my teacher chose to move me up to Mandarin 3 as I had previously self-taught Mandarin to the extent that she thought I would be able to cope with the difficulty, and I have been attending every week since September and share the class with the final year undergrads.
Now, that's all well and good, but Mandarin 3 is the highest available level on my course, and I'm only on my 1st year. As such, I will have to drop formal Chinese classes from my 2nd year onwards, which I don't wanna do, frankly. I very much enjoy learning Mandarin, and consuming such aspect's of China as its media, culture, history, etc. and want to learn more and more about it in a formal setting (more than I wanna do English, which is mad because I love English lol).
That being said, I found Westminster, and a course they offer called "Chinese and English BA Honours" (QC42).
Now I wanna ask you lovely people:
1- Is it possible for me to attend this course through a year 2 transfer?
2- I looked at the year 1 modules to see if I'm on an even keel (the course at Westminster emphasises China studies, language studies, and the weight on literary studies doesn't look very heavy). For reference, for my 1st year I am doing 4x 30 credit modules: Literary Forms of Representation, The History of Western Literature, Case Studies In Short Fiction, and Mandarin 3 (HSK 3). I appreciate that I need to contact the university and also my course leader regarding all that jazz, but if anyone is studying this course, could they please tell me about their 1st year?
3- How do I apply for a year 2 transfer?
Not sure what I missed here, but please let me know any other useful bits and bobs!
Thanks
~ Ali
