Strathclyde accommodation

Hi - I am weighing up offers from Glasgow and Strathclyde and am hoping for some insight into 1st year halls and accommodation thereafter. Glasgow Uni seems to have clearer accommodation choice. I am a bit concerned that I will be unable to specify my preference of halls for Strathclyde - has anyone had experience of this? Also, where do students stay after their first year at Strathclyde? Is there much choice in the vicinity? Thank you

You can specify preference at Strathclyde. It is room type (sink/ensuite/none) which pretty much correlates to hall, or private halls. After first year at both you will be in the private letting sector (HMOs or small flats) or private halls.

University of Strathclyde offers relatively few on-campus residence halls, so competition can be fierce. However, it is in an excellent location, close to the Glasgow city centre area, so there are plenty of off-campus student accommodation options around. The nearest to the University are Martha Street Apartments, Bridle Works, St Mungo's and St James, which are more expensive but offer a wider choice of room types and communal facilities. Alternatively, if you're confident about living off-campus, you can rent a social property with a friend, which can considerably reduce costs.

Hi there,

Strathclyde halls work on a priority basis, which can be found in subsection 3 here. In your application you can specify a preference for an en-suite, standard WHB, or standard room. In the application you'd rank these 3 options on which one you'd like most to least but your first choice is not guaranteed. Where you stay depends on availability but im pretty sure it will be on campus if your a first year undergrad, you will fill out a personality questionnaire when applying so that you will be placed with people similar to you (aka night or morning people, party-ers, etc.) and from my experience this is pretty accurate however if issues do arise then there is support available via the ResLife team.

For second year there is a large amount of private dedicated student accommodation as well as apartments however if you need to you can apply for halls again any year but are less likely to receive them.
