If you've completed your Law degree in 2025, you can still apply for the Legal Practice Course (LPC) as some providers are offering it until it fully phases out. However, from September 2021, the Solicitors Qualifying Exam (SQE) became the new centralised route to qualifying as a solicitor in England and Wales.
The SQE has a four-stage qualification process:
•
A degree (in any subject)
•
Pass SQE1 & SQE2 assessments
•
Complete two years of Qualifying Work Experience (QWE)
•
Meet the character & suitability requirements
Unlike the LPC, the SQE is an exam, not a course, but most candidates choose to do an SQE preparation course. Many universities and training providers (like ULaw) offer tailored courses taught by expert lecturers to help prepare for the exams.
It's worth considering which route best suits your career plans, as many firms now prefer the SQE. Hope that helps!
