should i do 4 alevels??

hi guys!! i need some advice!!

i am currently in year 12 and i am doing chemistry, biology, maths and physics alevels and i want to study dentistry at university.

i dont know if i should drop physics so an AS because im scared that doing 4 alevels will be a lot during year 13. the whole reason i am doing physics is because i genuinely enjoy the subject.

can anyone who’s studying dentistry at university give advice on whether doing 4 alevels is worth it?? does it give any competitive advantages?? or is it better just doing 3??

thanks guys 🤍🤍

No need to complete 4 A levels. Physics can be done to AS level and the others to full A levels.
No University requires or prefers 4 A levels for Dentistry - its literally a waste of your time.

If you're comfortably meeting the offer requirement for the university you want most, you should be fine doing all four as long as you enjoy them. Otherwise drop one, it would be terrible to get AAAB if you needed A*AA.

If you genuinely enjoy the subject and would miss it if you dropped it, keep it. But it most likely won’t give you an advantage with uni. However, people are very quick to push students to drop to 3 when some genuinely do love all 4 of their subjects so if you genuinely want to keep all 4, don’t feel pressured to drop.

Just drop physics, you’ll just be causing yourself so much unnecessary stress as it won’t give you any advantage at all, just will be disadvantaging you. Also, this whole argument of “if you enjoy the subject” makes zero sense, because if you enjoy it, you can just watch cool videos, read books or articles on physics in ur spare time stress free, and because it’s not being examined , you’ll enjoy it even more
personally i did 4 alevels, i think if you really want to do 4 only do it if you are productive and efficient as in you can plan out your time 24/7, if you can't - i would just suggest doing 3, by you doing 3 or 4 alevels it doesnt give you a disadvantage or an advantage

I would recommend doing 3 just because it will really make your life easier and doing 4 is not necessary for dentistry; unis won’t prefer you over students only doing 3 A-levels. I think with a competitive course such as dentistry, your main focus should be UCAT, interviews, and most importantly, getting the grades which - unless you are contextual - will be a minimum of AAA. Doing four A-levels works great for some people, but it requires a lot of effort, time management and strategy. Balancing this with dentistry applications and interviews is extremely difficult. I think it’s best to do three A-levels and achieve grades that will get you into uni for dentistry, than to do four and maybe not do so well and miss the grade requirements. Overall, it is up to you since you know your strengths and weaknesses the best!

i recommend that you can do 4 a levels in y12 and figure out which one your best at/ enjoy but before y13 i would say drop one as it’ll be a lot of stress and no one really looks at 4 a levels just try to get work experiences to support dentistry

if yu want to be depressed, then yes.

Some people study subjects out of genuine interest as opposed to a means to an end and do enjoy doing 4 A levels.
