eligibility*for tuition and maintenance*loan for second degree

I have an undergraduate degree and I am considering second degree. The information regarding eligibility*for tuition and maintenance*loan for second degree is somewhat ambiguous.

I am considering the following 3 courses :
- Psychology, BSc Hons part-time (4 years) in London Met. UCAS code
C800;
- Human Nutrition, BSc Hons part-time (4 years) in London Met. UCAS code
B400;
- Computer Networking and Cyber Security BSc (Hons) part-time (4 years) in London Met. UCAS code GG4M;

Is my information correct that the courses are eligible for tuition and maintenance*loan for second degree?

Many thanks

HI there,

Could you confirm when the courses would start?

Thanks, Drew

Hello!

Apologies for the delayed response.

September 2025. Does it matter if it's before that, for example , between April and June ? I am not sure, but I think some universities have two deadlines.

Many thanks

Hi there, If you currently hold a degree, and as these courses are not classed as exemption courses, then you would not be eligible for tuition and maintenance loan for a 2nd degree. Thanks, Stephen.

Hi,

I am very confused. Where can I see the list with the exemption courses eligible for tuition and maintenance loan ?

Many thanks

Hi there, this would be full time courses that you would need to provide information and we can check their eligibility for exemption status. Examples of the types of courses would be Nursing and Midwifery, Medical Doctor, Dentist, Veterinary Surgeon, Architect, Social Worker, Teacher (courses over two years).

To qualify as an exception course for part time the course must be one of the following levels:

part time honours degree

joint honours degree

integrated masters degree.

And be one of the following subjects:

Medicine and Dentistry

Subjects to Allied Medicine

Biological and Sport Science

Psychology

Veterinary Sciences

Agriculture, Food and Related Sciences

Physical Sciences

Mathematical Sciences

Engineering and Technology

Computing

Geographical, Earth and Environmental Sciences

Thanks, Stephen

Thank you for your prompt reply Stephen.
Two of the courses I've asked about are in your list of exemptions though and they are part time honours.
As far as I understood correctly the course must be part time to qualify for tuition and maintenance loan.
Would you kindly double check for me, if the courses I've asked about are indeed within the qualifying exemption list and if not, why.
Your kind help is much appreciated.

Many thanks

Hi Nicolete,

Yes, those are the part time exception courses to previous study and equal level qualification rules.

There are other full time exceptions such as Allied Health Professional courses/Nursing/Midwifery and also PGCE courses that lead to a QTS.

Thanks, Clare

Hi ,
Thank you very much for your response.
So these courses are eligible for BOTH tuition and maintenance loan?

Many thanks

Hi Nicolete,

That is correct, as long as they are not distance learning courses.

Thanks, Clare
