What should I choose as my Insurance offer?

I want to go to Glasgow, I’ve gotten a conditional, they’ll be my firm. I’m debating between strathclyde or Edinburgh for my insurance.

I have an unconditional to both. Strathclyde is more convenient, location wise. But Edinburgh is more “prestigious” and higher ranked for Law and in general. I feel a little silly not putting it as my firm, but outright rejecting it just feels weird. It would be inconvenient to move, though.

If you don’t want to move then put Strathclyde as your insurance. Prestige means nothing if you’re unhappy and don’t get the best results you’re capable of

With an Unconditional as your Firm you don't have an Insurance - because you don't need one, you have no offer conditions to meet. If you accept an Unconditional, that is where you are going.

Go and visit each Uni, walk around, think about where you are going to feel happiest.

Glasgow is my only conditional, which is inconvenient, but that’s my firm.

What results did you achieve to get an unconditional from Edinburgh Uni and were was it a contextual offer?

I would say pick Edinburgh because it's a great opportunity and an impressive insurance however I would say you should ultimately pick the uni you feel you would be happiest at. No matter the ranking or prestige what's most important is that it feels like the right place for you and you wouldn't be too disappointed if you don't get your firm because you like your insurance.

What are your reasons for not wanting to move ?
.Most people move for uni.

Costs mostly, I live right next to Glasgow, and could stay at home while going to uni, so I save on rent. Edinburghs more expensive than where I live, and I’d have to pay rent and for other necessities.

Also I’d be far from friends and family, there’s a certain reputation of Edinburgh being prestigious and its students being “snobby”, I worry about fitting in considering I’m a working class scot, everyone else I know is staying in the city or surrounding area and I value their support more than being isolated at a higher ranked uni.

Choose Glas & Strath - that way you know where you're staying and can prepare better

I would suggest you go and visit both before making up your mind. There will be lots of ordinary kids at Edinburgh as well as middle class kids.Do not box yourself off at 18.

I agree, I’ve chosen them both. Strathclydes a decent school to be honest, I’d be just as happy going there than Edinburgh. 🙂
