Sutton Bonington and sports

Does anyone know about how feasible sports are travelling from SB to the main campus and then further to Harvey Hadden Village for the athletics track and athletics club in the evening. It would need to be using buses.

Depends what you are prepared to do:
- quite a few students particularly early on there course are happy to commute to SB, if you intend to get the bus then you will have to pick accommodation reasonably (some of the uni park halls are close by)
- if you’re are happy to live in private accommodation and drive yourself then it’s not bad at all, it’s like 15-20min drive which is a probably quicker than most people’s walk to university
- A lot of people will want to live in halls year 1 for the experience, so youd have to manage your life around the bus schedule but it’s definitely possible

If you don’t have a car then certainly in second year + beyond where most people prefer to get private student housing then you would be constrained by where you could look to live.

Thank you for your reply. Sounds like might be doable but depends on the buses. The aim is to live at SB campus for the first year and then close by as the course is based there, so it would mean getting a couple of buses to get to Hadden Village. Just not sure whether that is feasible and if anyone does that journey from SB.

I (personally) think it’s much tougher commuting from SB to Nottingham main campus area for societies, typically societies and social life happen on evenings & weekends, whereas the vast majority of lectures and in person teaching during normal business hours (9am-5pm). In general this could lead to you commuting at out of peak travel time.
When I was a student at Nottingham it was more typical for students to live the other way around, I know a few people who had lived in Nottingham city/around the main campus and would then drive there own cars sometimes as a group to SB. There were also people who chose to live in SB but i think they often formed there own community and societies at that campus.

Thank you. It is all about the detail so will have to somehow look into the buses that go to Harvey Hadden Village and how that fits in with SB as base. Would love to hear from anyone who has done this or any tips on getting to the athletics track.

Hi!

Harvey Hadden is in Bilborough, which is 2.5/3 miles away from University Park. I have seen that some students go together in a couple of cars but there is also a number of Nottingham City Transport buses that stop at the facility (from the top of my head 28, 35 and 35B). If you take the bus, I would try to plan ahead of the traffic to be sure you get to the sessions on time (this is relevant if you plan to take either the 35 or the 35B). You could also walk, but it takes about 1hr. from the east entrance of University Park to get there.

In terms of returning to SB, there is a free bus for university students which is fairly convenient. I leave the timetable here: 901 Bus Timetable.

I hope it helps,
Abian.
