If you miss your offer by one grade and the course isn't that competitive, you'll probably be able to contact the uni and ask. But by a few grades is highly unlikely.
Make sure your insurance is a uni you'll very likely to get into even on a bad day and you're happy with so you don't have to go through clearing or take a gap year, if you really don't want to do that.

Please DO NOT contact any Uni on Results Day 'just to ask'.

If a Uni decides to accept you regardless of your achieved grades, they will have already made this decision and that is what you will see when UCAS reopens on Results Day morning.

If a Uni doesnt accept you and rejects you based on your results, your application will drop to your Insurance choice - and there is no point whatsoever in contacting your Firm to beg on Results Day. Its a No, and its very final.

I did mean ask if they haven't made a final decision yet, don't beg after they made a final decision. The advice from UCAS is to contact them if your place is yet to be confirmed.

99.9% of all results are processed and decisions made before UCAS opens on Results Day.
Where this has not happened, its usually because of an incomplete exam result - which has nothing to do with the University. Therefore its pointless calling the University.

McGinger.

You shouldn't really be planning for clearing now - we're still in the main cycle. If you're looking for vacancies at the time, it's best to look on the uni websites as that's what's going to be frequently updated. Some are starting to get you to fill out a web form instead of calling them.

Wat
Going back to the original question, UCAS don't reject anyone.

As above, unis receive results before you and a human being makes a decision on anyone that hasn't met their offer conditions. Nothing is automatic.

Yes, you might still get in, making clearing irrelevant.
