Postgraduate funding declined - UEA

Hello,

Any help would be appreciated as this whole ordeal has me burnt out.

I’m currently in my second year of MSc Advanced Professional Practice (part time) at UEA. I applied for a postgraduate loan in my first year, and was rejected, with SFE stating that:

“the course name you gave us does not match anything on our list of eligible courses supplied to us from your university or college. The course you're studying may not be considered eligible for Postgraduate Master's funding.”

I managed to secure some funding for my first year at uni and scraped by and so didn’t query this further.

Come second year, my employer has significantly lowered the amount of funding they’re able to grant me, I am now working every hour under the sun to make up the difference in an attempt to meet the costs of my course, as you can imagine this is leaving me less time for studying and the whole thing is becoming a struggle and a juggle.

I informed my lecturer of the above, and he was under the impression the course was valid for a postgraduate loan, and encouraged me to reapply, I have done…and been declined again with the same reason given, which is driving me mad.

Does anyone know the reason behind this? I’m a UK resident, and received my undergraduate loans for my Bsc in Paramedic Science with no issues at all, and have not studied to postgraduate level previously. The postgraduate course I’m studying is a 3 year part time course, there is no full time alternative and is 180 credits. Is it because the course is HEE accredited? I know a lot of trusts fully fund those in trainee positions or apprenticeships however I’m self funding and completing all studies and assignments on my days off.

Any help would be appreciated, please help a burnt out paramedic out!

Contact the Student Records or Registry team at UEA and ask to be put into contact with whoever is responsible for sending details to SLC. It sounds like they haven’t set the course up with SLC or if they have that they’re using a different title or it’s eligible for a different type of funding.

Hi there, from the available information for this course no students can apply for this course as advised by your university. You will need to contact the university to update this as required. Thank you, Stephen.

Hi Stephen, thank you for replying, my apologies, are you saying the university should update their website information to advise there isn’t funding available? Or that the university need to update details with SFE so that funding can be accessed? Best wishes and thanks again for the reply ☺️

Hi there, we would require the university to update the course information on the course database, as the information advises that this course is not open to any students, the university would need to update this for to allow the application eligibility to be reviewed. Thanks, Stephen
