Tips Needed for Upcoming Diagnostic Radiography Interviews!

Hi,

I have two upcoming interviews for Diagnostic Radiography at BCU and UWE, and I’m feeling quite anxious about them. I recently had an interview with the University of Derby, but I panicked and feel like I flopped it, considering they gave a different offer then the one I initially wanted.

I would really appreciate any tips or advice on how to prepare better and stay calm during interviews.

Hi @afif11,

Congratulations on your interview. Here’s some tips as someone who’s been in your position :

1. Start by thinking about the NHS Six Cs. Imagine how you would handle tricky situations like helping anxious patients, explaining procedures, or getting consent.
2. Practice answering questions about patient-centred care. This is a great way to show compassion and communication.
3. Demonstrate your genuine interest in radiography by explaining your passion for the field and why the university is the ideal for your academic and professional growth.
4. Take some time to think about the skills and experiences you’ve gained during your studies, through part-time jobs, or through volunteering, show how these align with the values of the profession.
All the best with your interview.😉

Hi any tips for how to answer scenario questions correctly, like what’s the best approach to answer them. Also I’m struggling to word my answers despite knowing the answer, does stuttering look bad in an interview.

No it doesn’t. I have had an interview for BCU and got an offer even tho I feel like I stuttered sometimes while answering the question. As long as you actually know what you are talking about and u show ur interest in the field, u will be fine

Ok, how in depth did you speak about the values and skills of a radiographer, like I understand the context and I’ve got good knowledge on what the skills are and why they are necessary, but do I need to give excessively long answers, or would it be ok to explain the skill why it’s needed and an example of how I demonstrate it. Pls let me know any tips you have from your interview, thanks for replying 💕

You don’t want to massively go into depth as my interview was about only 20 ish minutes, with 6 questions asked. Make sure u know about the 6Cs and the NHS values as does they will definitely ask. Also for each 6Cs make sure u have an example of how u demonstrate it. It could be the same example for each one, it doesn’t matter as they will only ask u about 1 or 2. Make sure u have a water bottle with u and always ask them to repeat the question if u don’t understand, even if it allows u a sec to come up with an answer. And also make sure u know why u want to become a Radiographer and the skills u have that u think u could transfer into radiography. Good luck with ur interviews, I know u will do well (and don’t stress 😂)

Look at the 'responsibilities' and 'skills required' sections - Diagnostic radiographer job profile | Prospects.ac.uk - what examples would you use to show that you have the required skills and experience?

NHS Values - The NHS values | Health Careers
And, think about how different professionals within the NHS work together to treat a patient.
