Student friendly neighborhoods Edinburgh

Hi guys, I’ll be moving to Edinburgh over the summer for postgraduate studies and wondered if anyone has any experience/advice on best neighborhoods for students looking for flats! Looking for affordable areas with easy access to Uni of Edinburgh’s College of Art; also wondering if anyone has advice on areas to avoid. Thank you!!

Avoid places like - Niddrie and Craigmillar ( there's a few good parts in this area but still a lot of problems)
Westerhailes - ( this covers areas of Hailesland, Dumbryden, Clovenstone, Broomhouse ), - again you'll find some okay decent parts there but it is a rough place).

If you are studying at the lauriston place building then you'll find a lot of decent places in and around there ( Marchmount - other side of the meadows, Tollcross, Bruntsfield, warrander park, in and around Newington area, Morningside and surrounding areas)

Depends on how far you want to travel to university at lauriston place - start looking at flats close to university and work away from it but make sure you are able to travel without too much hassle.

Best I can probably offer you on this one.

hi, this is a bit late but I'm also going to do postgraduate study at ECA (music masters) from this summer. May I ask what course you are studying and if you have any other accommodation information/plans since making this post? I'm struggling to find information on postgraduate options! Thanks!!

Yeah for sure! I’ll be studying the Global Premodern Art MSc, and I’m also moving from the US so finding accom is going to be a little tricky haha. I’ve been looking at Spare Room, there’s a lot of options on there and places to find roommates, plus like the standard Zoopla and On the Market! I can’t really actually apply for anything until I have my visa unfortunately. Where have you been looking?

I've been looking at Spare Room a bit as well. I've also been looking at the university postgraduate accommodation but I'm conflicted over whether these would be best for me. Have you looked into these? It seems that you'd be guaranteed a place as an international student. I'm from the UK so not sure what my chances of getting a place are. https://www.accom.ed.ac.uk/applying/guarantees/

Yes I feel the same way! I am considering the university housing and I did see that it would be guaranteed so that would be quite a relief. I’ll probably apply just to see what happens and have a back up plan? Which ones are you considering?
