Primary Education Studies at Liverpool John Moores?

Is anyone thinking of applying for a degree in the School of Education at LJMU? I’m a 2nd year Primary Education student and would be happy to help with any queries
about LJMU, Primary Education, the assessments and any other questions you might have!

Hi,
Thank you for posting.
my daughter is looking at doing education with primary studies in September, How many are on the course as is it easy to make friends.
Also she is looking at either Horizon Heights or St Luke’s. Did you stay at either of these, pros and cons.
She is thinking of mixed (8 rooms), again do you think mixed or same gender.
Such a mind field and just wsnt to make sure we pick the right choice.
She def wants the uni lifestyle (hopefully with some down time lol)
Thank you

Hi thanks for your message!

I believe my course has around 100 pupils, however classes are much smaller with approx. 20 - 30 pupils per seminar group. In the first semester there are many group assignment, the course leaders have done it this way intentionally to help students make friends. I moved to Liverpool not knowing anyone and found it super easy to make friends, despite not being the most naturally outgoing person. There are so many clubs, societies and volunteering opportunities to get involved with, a list of these can be found on the JSMU website. This is a great may to not only make friends but also learn new skills.

I would also recommend downloading our app 'Campus Connect'. The group allows applicants to join group chats with other first years, based on their hobbies, course and accommodation. This is a great way for her to make friends before she starts in September. I believe there is currently a group chat for Primary Education students!

I have not lived in either of the accommodations you mention, but I have heard great things and know they are both LJMU approved accommodations. Both are based on Mount Pleasant, which is only five minutes away from the LJMU library and the Education Building where your daughter will likely have her lectures. Both are also close to many student pubs and the Liverpool One shopping center, which is perfect if she is looking for that 'uni lifestyle'. From personal experience, living in mixed dorms is great for socializing and meeting people from all walks of life, however can get messy! So really depends on what she is looking for. You can contact the LJMU accommodation team for any questions about accommodation by email at [email protected].

Hope this helps and good luck to your daughter on her university journey!

Thank you so much for replying. It’s nice to know the course does group sessions in smaller numbers.
Have you enjoyed the course so far ?
Thank you.

Starting uni was so scary at first and a huge step for me but I've loved my time at LJMU so far. I've had so many amazing opportunities to build my skills and experience, in both a voluntary and paid capacity. The academic staff and wellbeing team have been so amazing in supporting my through my time at uni. I've been really impressed by the resources available to us as students from the JMSU events to the subsidized training courses. Liverpool is such a gorgeous city with such a vibrant student scene. Whilst its had its ups and down its honestly one of the best things I've done for my personal and professional growth.
