Is it alright for a 16 or 17 year old boy to date a 19 or 20 year old girl

I know that a lot of girls date boys who are older than themselves but would the other way round be fine e.g. a 16 or 17 year old boy dating a 19 or 20 year old girl?
An adult dating a child might be weird (especially because of vulnerability and being at different lifestages) but beyond that, it’s not weird in my opinion.

An adult dating a child is always weird. However different countries label 'child' differently. For a teacher in the UK, a child is 18 or under. For anyone else, a child is 16 or younger. Hence the age of consent laws.
Anecdotally, it seems like a lot of people want to prevent anyone older than 17 from having sex with a 16 or 17 year old, for various reasons whether it's safety concerns, a general dislike of age gap relationships, parental desire to preserve offspring purity, or to reduce competition from someone with a fancy car and a job.
For any international readers, I remind them that the age of consent in the UK, apart for those in positions of trust with under 19 year olds, is 16.

"PICNICl" you say "For a teacher in the UK, a child is 18 or under"
Wrong. "...a child is Under 18 , NOT 18 or under.

19 ?????? , NO, it is UNDER 18.

Please get your Facts (which are NOT facts coz they are wrong) straight.

It's not the worst thing I've ever heard of but it's an odd 19-20-year-old woman who wants to date a 16-17-year-old boy.

OK, I got it a year out. You taught me the truth. Thanks. You didn't have to be so draconian in your manner. Is this why you cowardly remain 'Anonymous'?

An adult dating a child, even over 16, is uncomfortable and better avoided

most women I knew aged 20 wouldn't even date a 19 year old, 21 year old wouldn't date a 20 year old etc. (and those are all adults) They're big jumps in developing as a person and growing up, once you hit these ages you'll probably feel the same

I think it is usually bad except for rare occasions where you're at the same place in life-the genders don't matter. For example, if a 17 year old was living alone, I think it's fine to date a 20 year old. When I was in university, I found that most people in their 20s weren't much different from me. A 23 year old in uni who lived at home with their parents for their gap years seemed mentally equal to me, while a 23 year old in uni who was married with a kid seemed WAY older than me.
