Some questions I have for anyone at Cardiff University

Hi all,
I'm currently in year 13, and my first choice for university is computer science at Cardiff. I would like to ask these questions:
1) is there a list of all the items that Cardiff Uni recommends I buy before I get there? I want to start buying early but I'm unsure what the university provides and what I should provide. This is for both during university lectures and for the dorms.
2) I have yet to receive any news from Cardiff on UCAS, whereas most (but not all) other universities I have applied to have gotten back to me. Should I be concerned? What time-frame do Cardiff reply to UCAS offers?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Before you start the course they usually provide a list of everything you’d need books etc so I’d wait off buying until you know for sure what you’ll need, cardiff are usually longer sorting through applications than other universities, take no news as good news.

Thanks for your reply! I'm sure your right about pre-buying when it comes to things like textbooks, but I hope that one of the Cardiff representatives can provide some info about what I'd need to buy for stuff in my dorm. That's also good about their application process.

Hiya,

Cool to hear you're interested in Cardiff

1) In terms of course materials, unless your course has emailed you anything you'd need to get, the usual answer is no. First year, and first semester in particular, is sort of like an adjustment period honestly, as you start learning how you study your course at a degree level.

The university has a list of things to bring to your dorm, and things that will also be provided. These are mostly just the living essentials however, so you may want to consider other things such as hobby items, tech etc. Some students have also written some helpful blogs about what they recommend bringing to uni if that helps:

A moving in checklist for Freshers
Preparing for university: what to bring

2) It's totally normal, don't worry! Different universities work on different timeframes, so its normal to hear back from other universities sooner. You will definitely hear back a response from Cardiff by mid-May-ish, since that's the deadline for universities get back to UCAS with their decisions. However, it is likely you'd hear back much sooner than that. If you were super worried, you're also welcome to contact the admissions team.

Hope that helps!
