Hi Azzz128,

What courses are you applying for & what Applied Science Degree are you doing?

Kind regards,

Well, that depends on when "no university accepts you". In your initial application, you get to apply to up to five universities / courses. Hopefully one or more of them will make you a conditional offer. If none of them do, then you can apply for one additional university / course via UCAS Extra. If they don't offer you a place then you can apply for one more. This process continues one university / course at a time until you receive an offer or until UCAS Extra closes (that's on 4th July this year). You can find out more about UCAS Extra here.

What can also happen is that you receive one or more offers (which are conditional on you achieving a certain grade), choose one as you firm or insurance choice, but then don't manage to meet the conditions of either offer. Sometimes a university will let that slide and accept you onto the course anyway; sometimes they will not.

If that happens (or if you receive no offers in the first place), then you'll be in UCAS Clearing. In Clearing, students without a place contact universities with places to fill and have an informal conversation on the phone (or sometimes complete an on-line form) expressing interest in the course. You can do this will as many universities as you like and receive informal offers. You them pick one of them and formally apply via UCAS Hub. Hopefully, they just rubber-stamp the application, as they knew it was coming and already had enough details to make an informal offer. However, sometimes students get rejected at this stage, either because the university made more informal offers than it had places for, or because the full UCAS application (which the university will likely not have seen before) contains something with didn't come up during the conversation which is an issue. As with Extra, if the university to which you've applied via Clearing opts not to accept you, you get another Clearing choice, and then another etc. until you secure a place or Clearing closes (that's on 20th October this year). You can find out more about Clearing here.

As I hope you can see, the system is designed to give to many, many, opportunities to secure a place. However, despite the above, each year some students end-up without a place. In which case they have the option of applying again for next year.

It's always wise to allow for some flexibility in your choices. If you're fixated on a particular course at a particular university, then you're more likely to be disappointed than if you're happy with that course at a variety of universities. Similarly, if you apply only for courses / universities which are very competitive, then you reduce you chances of receiving an offer from at least one university.

Look at the 'entry requirements' for the sort of degree subject you want to do on range of different Uni websites.

Some 'top' Unis will want at least one A level in addition to a BTEC Extended Diploma for STEM degrees. Many others will be fine with just the BTEC, but may want some specific modules so check carefully.

If 'what they want' isnt clear on the website course page, just email that Uni's Admissions team and ask.

Start with these :
Undergraduate Courses, Degrees : Study : University of Sussex
A-Z of undergraduate courses | Nottingham Trent University
Course Search Results | Birmingham City University

Hi @Azzz128 ! ☺️

Many Universities accept a BTEC. For example, I got into the course I am currently studying with a BTEC in performing arts!

There is also the option of clearing if you don't get the grades needed. You can find out more about clearing here: What Is Clearing? | Complete Guide | Clearing | Edge Hill

Does this help?
