Second Degree

I have already completed a degree but want to retrain as a mental health professional. I know that you can get funding for a second degree in some healthcare subjects. Can I get funding for an undergraduate degree in counselling and psychotherapy? Or an undergraduate degree in psychology? Thanks.

Hi there,

Some courses like psychology and psychotherapy can be exceptions when studied part-time. So, if you have any universities that you're interested in it may be worth asking them if they offer the course on a part-time basis.

Thanks, Graeme

Hi Graeme.

Thank you for the advice. I’ve contacted the university I’m interested in studying at to ask the question. Once I’ve found out if the course is offered part time, is there a way if checking if it is eligible?

Thank you.

Hi there,

You can ask us on this platform once you have all the course details and we can check to see if it is an exception course.

Thanks, Drew

Thank you so much.

The course that I’m most interested in is Bsc Hons Counselling and Psychotherapy at UCLan. Unfortunately it is only available full time.

My second choice is a PG Dip/MA in integrative psychotherapy (part time) also at UCLan. I do already have a post graduate certificate though.

Or, BSc Psychology with Psychotherapy and Counselling (part time) at UCLan.

Thank you for your help.

Hi there.

Psychology is not an exception course if studied full time. The Masters also would not be eligible as it has to be one of the following:

part time honours degree

joint honours degree

integrated masters degree.

The only one that qualifies is BSc Psychology with Psychotherapy and Counselling (part time). This would be an exception course and attract funding. Thanks, Leah.
