Changing my course at the University of Sheffield

Hi I'm currently got an offer for Electrical and Electronic Engineering at the University of Sheffield for September 2025. However I've come to realise that it's not what I want to do. I want to transfer across to Mechatronics and Robotic Engineering instead. My question is that how easy is it to change courses at this university

Ultimately it's better to ask to change sooner, rather than later, if you ask now it's much more likely that they'll say yes than if you wait until you've started. The worst that could happen is that they say no so go ahead, you have nothing to lose from asking.

Why?

Because I had a very bad experience at Nottingham as Mature Student and as result left back in December 2024. The issues with Nottingham for me is the fact that the accommodation system there is badly organised as it doesn't accommodate what mature students want which is to either live with other people of the same age group or with postgraduates. My experience with the accommodation was that in my first year i had requested to be in shared accommodation with other mature students or postgraduates and I was told at Broadgate Park that this wasn't an option so I had no choice, but to live on my own which completely ruined my experience at Nottingham. After filing a complaint about this I was then offered to be placed with post graduates during the current academic year of 24 - 25 only to find out that I had been placed in a flat with nobody living in it apart from me even though I was clear on the request that wanted to be with other people. Secondly the climbing society at Nottingham never climbed with people that they weren't friends with, so it meat that if you aren't one of their friends then always get ignored and left out from climbing with people, so as a result this experience I never found people to climb with. As I couldn't find people to go climbing with at Nottingham I as a result had to join external climbing clubs that are based in Sheffield which shouldn't have been necessary. I overall wouldn't recommend Nottingham for people that enjoy Rock Climbing, Mature Students nor Postgraduates.
