Medicine Exeter Waiting list

I got a rejection letter following my Exeter medicine interview. It also included that I am offered a place on the waiting list. Anyone else in a similar position? I’m not sure how many people are put on the waiting list post interview and how likely it is to get an actual place form the waiting list. Any insight on this would be appreciated. I’m assuming the only way to get a place is if ppl decline their offers or don’t reach their predicted grades. How likely is this?

Really sorry to hear that, i hope everything goes well for you. I’m currently placed on hold but I’ve seen people being put on a waiting list so I’d recommend you post this on the University of Exeter A100 Applicant and Offer Holder thread 2025 Entry” chat and hopefully someone will be able to reply to you🙂

are you an international or home student? and were you placed on hold after your interview or is this the first email you received after your interview?

Any waiting list only comes into play if on Results Day ...
a) you are not holding a Med place anywhere else (yes, Unis can see this)
b) a space is available at Exeter once they have processed August results
c) your grades are good enough for Exeter to want you
d) they phone you on Results Day.

Nerve racking, but if you don't get any other offers its definitely worth it - you could get lucky.

Thanks sm!! Hope you get the best outcome. I am a home student and this is the first email I received since my interview.
The first part stated that they cannot give me an offer at present. Then said that there is still a possibility to obtain a place through the waiting list and asked to confirm my place on it.

Thanks so much for your response. I’m assuming you have to be really lucky to get a place this way?

Its impossible to know as no one can predict what the A level results will be like in any year, and therefore how many spaces there might be, or if you will get a call.

Sorry for asking a lot of questions, but do u think contextual criteria will matter at that stage? I got 2 contextual offers for my non-medical choices so I’m pretty sure I also qualify for lower entry requirements like AAB at Exeter med(Ukraine scheme visa, free school meals, refugee). Do u think this would be taken into account or will they just look at the highest scorers regardless of circumstances at that stage and give places to highest grades

I've no idea - and Exeter wont either until they get to Results Day, so try not to over-think this.

Do you have any other offers, or other decisions still to come through?

thanks, that makes sense. I’ll just try to get the highest grades I can.
I’ve got my 2 non-medical offers for bio at Durham and physics at Manchester.
But for medicine I have one rejection, this Exeter waitlist and haven’t heard back from Keele yet.
