Student Finance for a fifth year?

I was wondering if anyone knows if I’ll get SFE for my fifth year of uni?

I started a degree (Scottish MA, 4 years) and then transferred to an English university where I started a 4 year degree with an integrated year abroad from year 1. This means I’d end up doing five years if I do the year abroad. Would this be funded?

Hi there,

How many years did you study from your Scottish MA, was it just one year?

Thanks, Graeme

Hi Graeme :-)

I did one year of the Scottish MA. I’m now in my first year of a new four year degree (3 years plus year abroad) at an English uni.

Hi there,

Have you moved to England for the purpose of study and have you applied for funding yet and has it be approved?

Thanks, Drew

Hi there, did you receive any type of qualification from one year of the MA? Thanks, Stephen.

Thanks. Just to clarify - sorry. Are you repeating a year of your current course or changing from a 4 to a 5 year course? Thanks, Jason

Neither. I studied one year of a four year degree, and now I am in the first year of a different four year degree at a different university.

Hi there. Is the course you are looking to study undergraduate?

Just to clarify you have done 1 year of a Masters (MA)?

What other previous study do you have before the Masters, either funded by SFE or self-funded?

Thanks, Leah.

No - my Scottish degree was a four year Scottish MA these are undergraduate degrees. I have no previous study before starting my new 4 year undergraduate course other than the one year I spent doing the Scottish undergraduate degree.

Hi tommo15,

As you only have 1 year of previous study in higher education and do not hold an equal level qualification, you would be eligible for the full duration of the course. I know you mentioned year 5 however, it sounds like you are referring to the 4th year of the new course (your 5th year of study) which you would be funded for if it is part of the course you are currently receiving funding for in the first year from SFE.

Thanks, Clare
