Glasgow University Summer School

My DD has had 4 unconditional offers and a conditional for Glasgow. The condition is to attend summer school? She has 5 A’s at higher. We’re curious why Glasgow’s condition is summer school and I wondered if anyone had any info on this. We’re Scottish if that makes a difference 😀

If she's a contextual candidate then that will be why. Are they from a SIMD 1-4 postcode? target school? carer status etc?

They are a Russell Group university and its obvious they don't really want to do 'widening participation' but they 'have to', so they are making it as hard as possible by essentially going 'okay we will lower entry requirements and/or offer places to those from contextual backgrounds but we'll add some additional requirements too like coming to summer school to prove to us that they are smart enough". No other university makes you go through additional hoops, if you're contextual, you're contextual.

Puts me right off Glasgow and its just snobbyness.

I’m not sure if our postcode falls under SMID 1-4. They don’t fall into any of the other categories. She has 5A’s which is more than the requirements but they do say they usually don’t offer until end of S6 so we expected a condition on another grade. We were surprised it was only to attend summer school. Her 4 other offers have been unconditional, including Edinburgh, which is her first choice so she won’t be accepting Glasgow. I was more just curious!
