Financial advice! Nursing course

So I have applied for Nursing course at Derby university and I got an interview next week and I’m really excited about this I really want to get in however….. I own a house with my husband and we have 2 children ( 6 and 3 years old) so financially I have to think everything through to make sure we not struggling if I get in my husband earns around 40k a year and I’m in full time job atm earning around 24k but will be going part time if I go to uni so my guess is I’ll probably earn about 12k a year or less ? What will I be entitled to financially wise ? Any grants ? Will I be entitled to anything? Really worried as I really want to go for it if I get in but if there isn’t much financial support I may not be able to do it 😭😭

Also if there is any derby university students here doing nursing could you please tell me how your placements look like ? How long ? How many days a week how many hours etc .

Thank you so much in advance for any advice

For student finance, your maintenance loan will be assessed on your husband's income and your unearned income (i.e. interest or dividends from savings/investments). The student's income from employment is excluded. Try the calculator to see how much you could get:

https://www.gov.uk/student-finance-calculator

You will also be able to apply to the NHS Learning Support Fund for the annual training grant of £5,000 per year and the parental support grant of £2,000 per year:

Email the department at Derby and ask for a copy of the this year's timetable.

Thank you for replying do you think I’ll still be entitled for the 2000£ childcare costs if my partner earns 40k? Is it based on income?

You'll be entitled to the parental support element of the NHS LSF - it's not based on income.

You wouldn't be eligible for the childcare grant from SFE.

Hi, how did your interview go? I have a place at Derby for mental health nursing.
I am in the same position. Partner earns the same and I plan on trying to see if we can cope without me working just so I can focus on Uni and the children. My student finance and bursery has all been confirmed now.
