southampton halls

I've started thinking about my accomodation options for southampton and i wanted some opinions from others.
I was thinking between Glen Eyre, Wessex Lane and Archer's Road.
I believe I'll mostly be on Avenue Campus so it's not too far to walk aswell.
I would prefer an ensuite, and it seems like Archers Road has the cheaper option compared to the others, does it look as good as what is shown online, is it better than Glen Eyre and Wessex Lane?
just fyi, i don't have an interest of living near bars and all so which would be best

Hi @amel.z0

I lived at Archers Road in first year. It is the cheapest option. The rooms are smaller though and the halls has less facilities than Glen Eyre and Wessex Lane, which is why it ends up being cheaper. It is easy to walk to Avenue campus from Archers Road. Glen Eyre is not that far to walk from either (around 25 minutes which is similar to walk from Archers Road). Alternatively, you can get the bus. You get a free bus pass in first year so it would be free to travel. With Wessex Lane, it's a bit harder to get Avenue from there. Walking would be quite long and there's no direct bus (unlike from Archers Road or Glen Eyre). So, I would not recommend Wessex Lane for going to Avenue Campus.

Your decision between Archers Road and Glen Eyre really depends on what factors you are considering. With regards to cost, Archers Road is better. From Archers Road, Lidl is very nearby so food shopping can be done very cheaply and easily in comparison to Glen Eyre. However, Archers Road's rooms are smaller. Also, it is a much smaller halls of residence. Whereas, Glen Eyre is the largest halls of residence. Ultimately, whether a bigger or smaller halls of residence is better depends on personal preference.

Glen Eyre is also very close to the main campus, meaning it is convenient for going to Fresher Events on Campus whereas, Archers Road is quite far from the main campus. However, Archers Road is nearer to the city centre - walking distance. Whereas, from Glen Eyre, you cannot walk to the city centre. Although having a free bus pass, does mean you can still easily travel.

Hope this helps,
