A Week in the Life as a Fashion Comms Student (Kingston University)

Hi everyone,

As many of you are starting to receive offers back and make decisions on which university to go to, you may start to wonder what it is like to live and study at the university you are thinking of attending. So, I thought I would share with you a week in my life studying Fashion Promotion and Communication at Kingston University. Every week is different, but hopefully this can give you a little insight into uni life and whether it might be something you are interested in.

Monday:

Morning - I had one to one tutorial with my lecturer about a project I am working on. The project is looking at the theme beauty where we can choose any aspect of the theme to create a tryptic. I showed them my ideas and they gave me some advice to help me move forward with the project.

Afternoon I went to the library to work on my beauty project and look over my feedback.

Evening I had cheerleading 6-8pm and then got back had some food and watched TV.

Tuesday:

Morning I spent the morning in the library preparing for my seminar in the afternoon by doing the reading, looking over last week’s notes and uploading work to the shared space.

Afternoon I attended a seminar for my module Critical Historical Studies, where we reflected on the ethnography, we did the week before and then started to look at how to convey interviews, with some guidance and activities from the lecturer to help us going forward with this. Straight after I joined an online talk about placement years, as I am considering this option for next year.

Evening Me and my flatmates take turns in cooking tea/dinner, so we all sit and eat together and catch up on our days. Afterwards we went to the library together to complete some work.

Wednesday:

Morning I had a general printmaking workshop which covered mono printing, lino and etching. We got to try a few different processes and learnt how to use various types of equipment.

Afternoon Once again I visited the library to work on a collaborative group project with the sociology students where we have been assigned the theme feminism and society to create a creative outcome that will be featured in an exhibition in the Town House at the Penrhyn Road campus. I also logged on to The Student Room to reply to some of your questions and posts on here 😊

Evening Me and my flatmates ate tea/dinner together and then got ready to go to a couple pubs. First, we went to The Mill that has a student night every Wednesday so the drinks are really cheap and then Ram Jam which has open mic nights.

Thursday:

Morning For the project about feminism and society we had a group meeting to finalise our slides for a presentation we had after reading week and had a final look through the questionnaire before we published it.

Afternoon First I went on a food shop, then I came back and completed some work from my room for the project I was working on with my group this morning.

Evening It was cheerleading training again tonight 6-8pm. Then once I got back, I logged on to The Student Room again to reply to some threads on here.

Friday:

Morning I had a lecture 10-12 about fashion styling for a group project we are doing where we need to elevate the charity shop our group has been assigned, in any way we see fit for the brand.

Afternoon We had group tutorials 1-3pm with feedback from our lectures about our presentations we did the week before, pitching our ideas for the charity shops. While waiting for our tutorial we had time as a group to discuss and develop ideas, so afterwards we headed over to the photography studios and loans room to book a studio and equipment for a photoshoot we have planned.

Evening It was my turn to make tea/dinner tonight and so I cooked a chicken tray bake for my flatmates. Then I continued to do some work for my projects and some packing as I visited Amsterdam over reading week.

I hope this gives you a little insight into what a week could potentially look like at university. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.
