how to choose a uni

hey there, i need some advice if anyone has an opinion on what i’m about to ask

ive applied to uni for 25 entry and have now got offers from most of the unis i’ve applied to

the problem im facing is i like different things about different unis and im not sure what should be the main factor i go off of

for nottingham, the course is IDEAL.
all the modules and optional modules look so intresting, and i also went to the open day where the explained their teaching style and i like how they do it.
i love the campus, but unsure if nottingham would be a great place to live

i then went to see leeds and oh my god i love it. it would be an amazing place to live as a student and the city campus is also so pretty. so overall i would prefer to live in leeds however the corse doesn’t entirely match to nottinghams standard.

this being said, ive applied for psychology so a lot of the corse content has to be the same/ very similar in order to meet the BPS requirements.

i’ve always thought the corse is the most important thing cause that’s what im there for, however i will be living there for minimum of 3 years so that’s important to.

Nottingham - its obvious isnt it? Its the course that really interests and excites you.
Why are you worried about living in Nottingham - it isnt going to be any less safe than living in Leeds or any other city.

i was worried by the amount of people that tell me nottingham isn’t a nice city to live in and it’s unsafe. that’s probs amplified by recent news in the city but you get that everywhere don’t you.
i’ve heard better things about being a student in leeds and people loving it as a place to live, i also loved the city my self, but need to see nottingham city my self too.
i think your right though

Don't judge an entire city by one incident. Go to a Offer Holder visit day and ask the students what they like about living there

Hi @lottie.proffitt1

Well done on getting your offers! Choosing a university is a big decision so it is important to take the time to consider your options.
Visiting your universities is a really good idea. Try to go with lots of questions that you could ask the students and staff as having more information should help you to make your decision. You could also try to spend a bit of time exploring the cities to see how you find them.

Ultimately you have to choose wherever feels right for you as you will be studying there for a few years.

Hope that helps!

Subject: Re: University Decision Advice

Hey there,

It sounds like you’ve put a lot of thought into your decision, which is great! Both Nottingham and Leeds have their strengths, and I completely understand how difficult it can be to choose between a course you love and a city where you’d enjoy living.

Have you considered the University of Southampton? We’re a QS Top 100 university with a vibrant student community, plenty of societies to join, and a city full of things to do. Southampton also has a rich history, and its location is ideal—not too far from London and other major cities.

I have friends studying Psychology here, and they always talk about how engaging the modules are and how much they enjoy the way the course is structured. Since you’re looking for a balance between a strong course and a great student experience, Southampton could be a perfect fit!

Here’s a link to our Psychology course so you can check out the modules: https://www.southampton.ac.uk/courses/psychology-degree-bsc

No matter what you decide, I’m sure you’ll have an amazing time at university. Best of luck with your decision, and feel free to reach out if you have any questions!

Best wishes,
Junfan, university student ambassador

Hello @lottie.proffitt1!

Congratulations on your offers!

I am a student at University of Nottingham and I have not had any issues thus far. Additionally, the university has a 24 hr./7 day security team operating across the university.

As @McGinger and other users have noted, it is a good idea to visit the university before you make a final decision so that you can get a feel for the university in general.

Feel free to ask us questions!

All the best,
Abian.
