Undergraduate medicine OR GEM

I am currently in s5 and here are my stats:
National 5: AAAAAAA
Higher: AAAA + A(an additional national 5) - these are my predicted grades based of the prelim
Advanced H/S6: I plan to pick Advanced H biology, Advanced H chemistry, Higher maths, and crash Higher physics.
I am an MVP and have participated in the young STEM programme which will appear on my results card in August.
Work experience as a junior doctor

Unfortunately, as I did 4 highers rather than the standard 5 in s5, I cannot apply for medicine once I leave highschool, so my plan is to study Pharmacy at the University of Strathclyde and aim for a 2:1 or higher. During this time, I will mature as an applicant, gain relevant work experience in a healthcare environment, practise for the UCAT in order to achieve a high score. I want to know if I should apply for undergraduate medicine or apply for the GEM programme once I graduate. I think because most GEM applicants aspiring to apply for medicine usually don't get high grades, some may do, but I want to know would I be a competitive applicant, do I stand a chance? I would like to apply for glasgow, edinburgh, st andrews, dundee, aberdeen. I can't recall which offer the GEM programme but I don't mind applying as an undergrad for glasgow or edinburgh maybe. I know there is limited spaces for the GEM programme but do I have an edge compared to some applicants.

Hii, I was just wondering if you were a contextual applicant, as I know that some universities will accept 4 highers if you are. If not, I would still suggest emailing all of the universities you plan on applying to in case they might still accept it, especially considering that the government won’t pay for your uni fees once you’re a postgraduate.

I contacted the med schools I would like to apply to, and only Aberdeen would consider an application from me. So I don't know if it is worth applying in s6 because I have heard applying to 1 medical school can be quite risky. So I'm unsure what to do if i should apply or graduate then apply as i have a better chance then

You could always apply to aberdeen for medicine and then use your other four choices for pharmacy? It would mean having to sit the UCAT for just one university.

I mainly want to go to a good Scottish University as University Fees in England can be quite expensive. The only good Pharmacy offering University is Strathclyde and that's is where I'd like to apply. I do meet their entry requirements so I don't think it's going to be difficult getting in if I put the work in. Do you think it's worth me applying to 1 medical school as there is always a great possibility that you might not be accepted, because typically you'd apply for 4 medical schools and + other course

I definitely think it’s still worth it. I know some people at my school who only applied to 3 or 2 medical schools because they couldn’t get in otherwise and they are still receiving offers. As long as you put in the work I definitely think Aberdeen is possible, especially if you are a Scottish home student. If not, it might suck getting rejected, but at least you tried and you can always go to Strathclyde otherwise.
