Edinburgh, Dundee and St Andrews uni for Medicine

Hi there! I need some advice if anyone has an opinion on Edinburgh, St Andrews or Dundee University for Medicine (2025). I am unsure on which 2 to pick.

I really liked the campus of Edinburgh, but I am just curious about the 3rd year of study (the intercalated year) and how useful it was and what anyone did in that year. Edinburgh is a top contender for me, but since I will be far from home and Edinburgh is quite expensive to live in, the additional year is something I am hesitant about.

With regards to St Andrews and Dundee, I am fine with both, but the area in St Andrews uni seems a little isolated??

And just in general, does anyone have any particular pros/cons about any of the mentioned unis??

Any input is appreciated

I think you should focus on getting an offer from one to start with.
You should also wait until you have taken the ucat as you need a top 10% ucat minimum for Edinburgh.
7/8 people get zero offers to study medicine at any university and every one these people have all A's.
Also what do you mean which two? What else are you applying to?

I have got offers from all three and have already completed my UCAT(sorry i wasn't very clear). I am awaiting an offer from Birmingham after completing the interview and do not have a fifth choice. Since UCAS only allows a choice of 2 (firm and insurance), I am unsure on which 2 unis to choose from out of the ones mentioned and was just looking for students from these unis to gather a wider perspective regarding them as I am not from Scotland.

Oh I understand now! 😅

Edinburgh would be my top choice, the least Scottish place in Scotland so you'd fit right in 🤣. Also just a top uni in general.
My second would be Dundee, it is a nice place and a good uni but it is really far North so any journeys back home would take a while.
When I apply, I'll be picking all the medical schools in Scotland apart from St. Andrews because it just seems a bit weird to me, a small little place and it hasn't even had it's own full medical course for long.

Best of luck!

I'd got with either Edinburgh or Dundee. Dundee is the best Scottish medical school and 2nd best in the UK, and Edinburgh is typically regarded highly and it has a good course. I personally are choosing the firm edi and then out Dundee as my back up.

Hello, I am also struggling with this. I have offers from Edinburgh, Dundee and Aberdeen for Medicine. I’m pretty sure I will be firming Edinburgh but I need help for what to put as my second choice?

I would pick Edinburgh same as you and Dundee for my second.
Aberdeen is way up in the middle of nowhere so unless you like the countryside and mostly rural placements, it probably isn't for you.
Dundee is also regarded as one of the best medical schools in the uk, more so than the likes of Oxbridge so it is a pretty obvious choice 😂

Thanks!
I don't fully know how to feel yet. I've started looking at some questions and I'm getting most right but I know under timed conditions it'll be different. Also, the online calculator is useless and so slow 🥲
How did you do on the ucat?

I totally agree with the online calculator, I hated it more than anything. I think i got 2650, or around that, can't totally remember. It came as a surprise tho, as in all of my mocks, the highest I was getting was like 2400, so it was a pleasant surprise. Anyways, goodluck!!!

I think my firm is going to be Edinburgh but I am still deciding on whether St Andrews or Dundee as an insurance- i think my insurance will depend on which scholarship works out form either uni
