The Student Room Group

sheffield uni accommodation

I’m planning to firm university of sheffield but i am not keen on the accommodation they advertise (ranmoor and endcliffe). although i really do like the community and village vibe, for the price and actual room you get i feel its not worth it. when i went to a sheffield hallam open day however i did look at the accommodation they advertise and did really like some eg the elements, LIV student etc. i was told i can still apply for the “hallam” accommodation despite me going to uni of sheffield? but will it affect my social life by being in an accomm with more hallam students and missing out on the ranmoor and endcliffe community?

hi so i think we are in the same boat. i applied to both hallam and uni of sheffield. uni of being my firm and hallam being my insurance. personally im applying to a hallam accom since its cheaper and closer to uni. at the end of the day its all the same city anyways so being friends with hallam or uni of doesnt make much of a difference unless you're one of those who look down on hallam students. if im being honest you will probably miss a bit in terms of social life with endcliffe and ranmoor since its known for being very loud and hetitic but you'll be able to make friends with people in uni of anyways through other means - societies, attending class, offer holder days, freshers week, through groupchats.

I’m in the same position. I’ve got an unconditional for uni of Sheffield for September and have started looking at accommodation. Ranmoore and Endcliffe are really expensive, despite them being 30 mins away from campus and the rooms are really dated. I definitely feel that Endcliffe and Ranmoore have a better community because of its size and that everyone is a first year. I’ve also been looking at Steelworks, which is a private accom, but it’s super modern and only a 5 minute walk from campus. Most importantly it’s so much cheaper!!!

are you sure if utilities are included in the price of the private accom?
