is doing pharmacy worth it?

ive seen people say that pharmacy is a bad choice, as well as medicine so i was wondering whether it was a good decision to make sure i get the grades i need for dentistry now (im in y13) and reapply for 2026 - can someone tell me what they think i should do? (and if you study these subjects please tell me the pros and cons)

for reference:
gcses: 8888776 & L2D for hsc
a level predictions: A*AA

I can’t help you with your specific questions but imo you are being very wise by being thoughtful, cautious and considered about medical careers. Many of them are incredibly stressful and life consuming! Perhaps also consider jobs that might have a better work/life balance (or less stress, shorter degrees or quicker career progression) like radiology, orthoptics, podiatry, optometry, physiotherapy, nursing, pharmacology, dental hygiene, speech therapy, clinical science (a route into pathology), psychology, occupational therapy etc. Or other stressful and bad work/life balance jobs like midwifery and paramedic science!

Good luck with whatever you choose

Ps. Get yourself as much work experience as you can as that will help you make an informed decision that’s right for you. My daughter was obsessed with work experience 😂 and did GP, anaesthetist, defence lawyers, orthoptics, psychiatrist, pathology and dentist. But they really helped her to decide (some she knew instantly were not for her!)

Pharmacy reforms being implemented now - "These new learning outcomes provide newly qualified pharmacists with the necessary consultation skills and confidence to provide the clinical services expected by patients and the NHS, working across health systems - and will enable pharmacists to be independent prescribers at the point of registration. By 2026, the aim is for all newly registered pharmacists to be able to independently prescribe medicines."

To the OP, in a word NO, don't. Robotics and AI will take your job in the 2030s, whatever the people who are paid to be here tell you, and try and push you into a degree.

And how do we know that you're not paid to write this?

Robotics and AI won't be taking over healthcare any time soon, I know that much. Not even radiology. The main reason being who wants to be diagnosed by a machine that gets it wrong? And if it goes wrong, who is to blame?

Doctors pile driving into the pharmacy threads! Hmmmmm! Ginga brought his paid professor mates over??!
Free time from the strikes no doubt.
I wonder how many pharmacists got a 29% payrise then went back for even more like Oliver Twist?! Me thinks Little Wes has had enough!

Rubbish......
said the horse and cart producers as Henry Ford rolled his little motor car out
said the radio and radio programme makers as this new 'Tele' thing appeared... "don't worry it will never take off" they said.
said the greengrocers as the supermarkets took off in the 1960s
said Betamax as VHS video tapes took off
said Woolworths in 2007 and now.......!
said Blockbuster as a little company started posting out DVDs then did this new thingy on the internet called streaming, now they're trying to buy up half of Hollywood......oh Netflix! ..... yeah, rubbish, no ones uses that do they Dr.

Those who don't know any history are destined to repeat it.

My GP surgery has 2 GPs, a paramedic, a prescribing pharmacist, a prescribing nurse, a community nurse, an advanced nurse practitioner, and two of those Physician associate/assistants.
In 2000 they had 2 GPs and a nurse. But that's just History.

Rubbish.

A well constructed and informative counter-argument.
