In your opinion which are the best martial arts to learn for self defence.

I'd say boxing + wrestling

I did Ju-Jitsu and Karate for 6 years each + Still doing boxing for around 5 years and started Muay Thai a year ago, so I'm pretty experienced in this sort of stuff.
I think it depends on the person. If you're solely focusing on the best for self-defence, i'd go Muay Thai, but it's very hardcore so maybe not the easiest for beginners. A good starting place would be boxing, it's easier but also good for strength building. It's also good for losing weight if that's one of your aims. If you're more of a smaller, faster guy, Ju-Jitsu would benefit you and it's useful in most "street fights", but it's not the best for strength building.

Meh I'd say kick boxing but mostly because that's what I stuck with, but it's a straightforward enough range of strikes and defence and doesn't rely on technique to quite the same extent as boxing imo, but pretty much anything that teaches the above and ideally throws in some sparring & fitness sessions is a good foundation.

Always needs to be said that self defence situations can vary wildly and no amount of training will ever prepare you for everything, the abilities to talk people down or simply run away are often of better use.
Karate combined with aspects of Muay Thai. Say this as someone who do martial arts since 2009. For fights on ground, experiences in Judo or Jiu Jitsu might be helpful.

When we were kids, my father used to teach us taekwondo. Helped us when we were teens.

Krav Maga uses the best bits of boxing, karate, kung fu & that. it was developed by the IDF to protect their soldiers against the very real dangers they face every day.
