Writing Essays for English Literature GCSE

Can anyone help with structuring GCSE English lit essays + how many quotes should u acc need to know roughly for each poem and book? I feel like I know how to revise for it but there is just so much to go over! Any tips for revising for Englit would be helpful too typically with covering all the content well.. Also I've got an essay that I've typed up it's not really finished but I'd appreciate if someone could have a look at it

Hey! Structuring your GCSE English Lit essays is super important, and having a clear plan makes writing so much easier. A good structure to follow is:
Introduction Briefly introduce your argument and the key ideas you’ll discuss. Mention the text and author.
Main Body Paragraphs Use the PEEL (Point, Evidence, Explanation, Link) or PEA (Point, Evidence, Analysis) structure:
Point Make a clear statement answering the question.
Evidence Use a relevant quote to support your point.
Explanation Analyse the quote, discuss techniques (e.g., metaphor, alliteration), and explore the deeper meaning.
Link Connect back to the question or compare to another point.
Conclusion Summarise your argument and reinforce your key points.
Quotes you need:
For Poetry: Around 3–5 key quotes per poem should be enough,
For Novels/Plays: 5–7 key quotes per character and theme should cover you well.
Revision tips:
Mind maps Break texts into themes, characters, and key quotes.
Flashcards Put the quote on one side and analysis on the other.
Past paper practice Timed essays will really help with exam technique.
Teach someone else Explaining ideas out loud can help solidify them.
Use acronyms For example, SMILE for poetry (Structure, Meaning, Imagery, Language, Effect).

I’d be happy to take a look at your essay if you want to share it! Let me know how I can help.

Thank you so much! This helps a lot! I've attached the link to my essay. 2023 MACBETH PAPER 1.docx It feels like I haven't really answered the question or maybe there are better quotes I could've picked?. Also, for themed questions I find it hard to choose what part of the text to talk about...
