GCSE options emergency - music vs geo

Hi i'm in Year 9 and need to pick my gcse options by the end of the week. i know that I am going to be taking triple science and ik that I'm gonna do comp sci and econ but I'm not sure if i should take gcse music or geo. I'm good at both subjects and have been getting high marks in both subjects, but idk what to do. i just wanted to know which ones you guys would rate better and why. please respond like asap. i need to choose by the 28th.

I don't do either of those subjects, but I know some people that do both. My school is more academic, so people that do art, music, drama etc. don't do as well as on their other subjects like maths, so this might be our problem. I heard geo is really easy but also kind of boring, but music is a lot of fun if you like toiling away trying to make music compostions. Music exams have been the bane of my friends' existence, especially with dictations. It honestly just depends whether you want high grades (if so you should pick geo) vs whether you want to have fun (depends on you but music is probably more fun) so just pick the subject you like and maybe take into consideration what you want to do for a-levels also.

i would absolutely recommend music over geo as someone who did both gcses. i also did well in both but i just really hated geography personally. there's a lot of really boring bits that dont even feel relevant, the whole thing feels like a waste of your effort. but music gcse barely even feels like work, it was my favourite subject. i regret not taking the a level a whole dang lot.

okay so I'm also in year nine so I'm probably not the best to help with this but I'll try my best 😓
-- if you have higher predicted GCSE grades in one subject then the other (this kinda depends on the school because not every school puts this in report) then choose the one that you have a higher predicted grade in
-- talk to your teachers/research a bit, ask what kind of stuff you actually do in the subject/how they're examined
-- it really depends on the school district but in short it'll be something like: -- music , composing, performance, and listening -- geography will be written exam based, usually a structured paper, possibly a problem solving paper and one based on presenting data
-- personally, I'd go for geography out of the two but I know a lot of people who really enjoy music GCSE it seems an interesting subject and geography can be quite dull at times
-- also, this doesn't matter too much but I'd say if you know what sort of thing you'd like to do in the future go to the one that might provide more information for that
-- if you really can't decide and you like both of them go for the one that you prefer the teachers in or the one that your friends have gone for

Good Luck! 💓

I've got to choose tonight and i just wanted someone else's opinion. Would it really matter if I took music gcse and not geo gcse on my application when I'm older? I understand that there's a certain prestige to the geo gcse but is it really that much more beneficial for a career in like medicine or stem?

No, it really doesn’t make a difference as long as you don’t want to do one for a level and you don’t have it at gcse
