UCLAN Veterinary Medicine Foundation

This year was my second time applying for this course, and just 2 days ago I saw that I was rejected once again. I don’t understand why? The course requires a DDM which is what I have, my GCSE grades are higher than required and I also have 4 weeks of clinical work experience which isn’t a requirement.

My personal statement was looked at by old college teachers and got the pass. What am I doing wrong and should I wait again to reapply ??

Have you asked the uni? What’s the actual full name of your BTEC, as written on the certificate?

It could be that there were more applicants with higher grades, unfortunately.

I know of 3 other people so far aswell as myself who were also rejected from this course on Friday. Honestly I was very surprised as I met the requirements and more, I’m assuming the course must’ve been very competitive this year.

Same thing happened last year to me, this was my second time applying and I was so hopeful 😭 but I’m really sorry to hear that it happened to you as well it’s definitely very shocking but if you don’t mind me asking what are your next steps going forward? Are you looking to apply again ?

The course I did is called Applied Science. I did ask the uni last year and this year and they said they couldn’t provide any feedback on my unsuccessful application. I did ask if I had everything I needed though grades wise and they said yes, so I’m not really sure if there isn’t anything specific I can do or if it’s just luck

Oh, okay. Sorry to hear that. I asked about the course title because it says 'Extended Diploma' on their website. I'm not too familiar with BTECs.

Have you thought about doing an Access to HE Diploma? If you have to reapply next year, perhaps it's something to consider? I know it's another course to do, but it would open up the unis you could apply to, and Bristol even have a guaranteed offer programme if you get the grades.

That’s such a shame that’s happened again especially when you meet the requirements, did you apply anywhere else? I have applied to RVC gateway but haven’t heard anything yet but it’s my last shot this application cycle.

Yes the course I did at college was an Extended Diploma but unfortunately for Bristol I don’t have the right GCSE grades. I’ve had a look at the universities who do offer the veterinary medicine courses and they require higher GCSE grades than I have, UCLAN foundation was the only one that required the grades I had :/ but if I do an access to HE Diploma, would that help me get into uclan ?

No unfortunately I don’t meet the GCSE grades for any other university as I have a 6 in English, 4 in maths and 5/4 in combined science and some required distinctions in some units which I didn’t get distinctions in. Hopefully you will get a place at RVC though! I’ve heard it’s good! Don’t lose hope just yet

Have another look at Bristol - they only ask for a 4/C in GCSE Maths and English.

UCLan do accept Access to HE. I had an interview there while doing mine.
