Is this ruining my own birthday celebrations?

Stopping family contacting me on my birthday, working till 8pm and then just having a takeaway?

Didn't do much after and this was due to not enjoying the last 2 birthdays off Work so decided to work for good and never take day off for it again. I would then say over and over again I was not comfortable having day off for my own birthday and I generally am not. It might stress me out.

I mean if you’re not interested in having a celebration then you’re not interested. I would say that stopping your family from contacting you can be seen as weird however (assuming that you don’t have family issues).

I wasn’t interested in celebrating or taking part in Christmas last year for example. I still went out with parent, but didn’t bother to do any proper celebrations or ask for any gifts (I didn’t want any of that, I wasn’t interested. Why do need to ask for gifts when I’ve got everything that I need?).

Hello,

I understand that birthdays can be difficult for people, myself included. Could you just put your phone on do not disturb mode until your ready to face the messages? That's what I did last year. I also went out for a meal on my own last year and it was the best experience.

Ultimately, it is ok to feel how you do and it is important that you celebrate your birthday (if you want to celebrate it) in a way which you are happy with, which may be on your own.

I hope this helps, if you have any further questions or anything please let me know.

I did have some messages electronically on Social Media which were fine.

I just couldn't bring myself to going out or anything like last time. Makes me feel sad now that I did take day off last time. I just wanted to see colleagues at Work.

I didn't have an issue with the people I didn't want calling me. I clearly was not happy with my day off the last time and never wanted a day off on my birthday ever again as it makes me uncomfortable.

I even warned anyone took photos to delete them on the day and told my manager I'm never taking the day off ever again which he's fine with.

I saw good intentions from family on my birthday when I was off but sadly I just couldn't take it at all and felt Work was best. From now on, I go give cakes, chocolates whatever to work. Time may change though. I had nobody to say happy birthday to me on my birthday apart from just messages via MS Teams at Work and messages via Social Media which were fine. I just did what I had to do.
