Uni of Leicester or Aston for CS? Nightlife and Uni experience

Both for CS. With Leiecster I want to do a international year in Dallas or Tokyo which is probably why that course intrigues me more, but the city of Birmingham feels like a better fit for me. Coming from London I don't want to lose that urban feel I grew up with and feel like Birmingham is the more likely of the two to live up to that.
However, I do know Leicester is a big, populated city with its own charm, so if anyone could compare the feel of the two ie; the nightlife, the culture, the diversity, the cities themselves and how they operate etc etc, that would be amazing!

Thank You!

If you want the big city vide, Birmingham is a bigger, plusher, more affluent place than Leicester. However, this is a very personal decision. Have you been to Open Days at both, are you going to Offer Holder visit day? That is the best opportunity to look more critically, think carefully about each course, and ask current students some questions about what they like about being there. Remember, you have until *June* to make this choice, so no need to rush at this and make a panicky decision that you later regret.

Aston is one of the better lesser known universities but Leicester is still better than it in general.

Leicester's accommodation is great, in picturesque Oadby. The halls of residence at Leicester have a true collegiate vibe actually, with their own events. The Students Union was great when I was there too.
Leicester is a place where you'll never remember much of the city centre but you'll fondly remember the campus (hopefully) and halls (I'd say definitely).

Hi @needtogetrich

I have not been to Aston myself, but as a current University of Leicester who comes from London, hopefully I can provide a useful insight!

I would say that Leicester is a smaller version of London - both are diverse, are busy in the city centre and have a lot going on. Leicester as a city is on the smaller side, but personally I quite like this as it saves a lot of money on public transport/ubers because everything is pretty much within 30 minute walking distance. In terms of nightlife, a lot of students will go to the student night on Wednesday in the O2 Academy on campus or go out on Friday or Saturday. There are few popular places that students will go to regularly (Mosh, Walkabout). A lot of Leicester's clubs tend to bars that operate as bars in the day and then clubs in the evening. Additionally, in my first year I stayed in Freemen's Common which is part of Leicester's city accommodation. These are high-rise flats so staying there made it feel more like London!

I would recommend going to Offer Holder Days at both universities and then, if you have time, explore the city centre after you have seen the university. This would help you get an idea of what the city centre is like and see if you can picture yourself there.

I hope this was useful and please let me know if you have any additional questions!
