Unsure of why my application is unsuccessful

I applied to Manchester to do psychology. They ask for AAA and my predicted grades are A*A*A. However, I have been told by them that my application was unsuccessful due to ‘Your qualifications/predicted grades do not meet our academic requirements.’ I’m confused as my predicted grades are above what they ask for and my GCSE grades are also at/above the grades they ask for. Is it worth getting in touch with them or is the decision final? Im just a bit unsure if there’s any way I can dispute this or if it’s even worth doing so. I really wanted to go here so I’m super disappointed :frown:

At AL are you taking one or more of: Psychology, Biology, Human Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Statistics, Mathematics, Further Maths, Applied Science?

You mention that you meet any GCSE requirements, but to confirm you have at least five GCSEs at minimum grade B/6, including English Language and Mathematics?

If it's yes to both of the above, yes, it's absolutely worth querying as the feedback does not make sense in that case.

Yes, I have taken psychology at A-level and predicted A*. Got GCSE grades at 7 in english and 6 in Maths. Also achieved 7 other GCSE grades ranging from 5-8. Thanks for your advice, I think I’m going to drop an email and ask for some clarification. Hopefully they will be able to explain why.

Yeah, in some cases the feedback itself is mistaken, but hopefully in this case it's the application itself in which case they should be able to revisit it.

I also applied to UoM, however it was unsuccessful due to 'competition being really high and so a number of applicants had a stronger educational profile than me'. I applied for Economics and Finance with AAA predicted grades, despite the entry requirements being AAA, they still rejected me ☹️. I really wanted to go there as my firm choice because I also really love the city. I still don't believe that everyone that applied and got an offer had higher predicted grades than the entry requirements. I have also applied to Manchester Met, but I am not as eager to go there.

What were your A-level subjects and GCSE grades ? Predicted grades are only one criterion. One possible reason for rejection might be that you didn't meet the subject requirements for A-levels or GCSE minimums :

Applicants must be studying at least one of the following A-level subjects: Accounting, Anthropology, Business Studies, Classics, Economics, English Language/Literature, Further Mathematics, Geography, History, Law, Mathematics, Modern Languages, Philosophy, Politics, Psychology, Religious Studies, Sociology, Use of Mathematics and World Development.

GCSE equivalent to at least Grade C or 4 in GCSE/iGCSE English Language and Grade B or 6 in GCSE/iGCSE Mathematics. GCSE/iGCSE English Literature will not be accepted in lieu of GCSE/iGCSE English Language.

If you do have 5 or more GCSEs above grade 6 including English Language and Maths, it is definitely worth getting in touch because that seems to be the only way you wouldn't get the offer. it could be that your 7 grade at GCSE is in English Lit but you have a 5 in English language which would not pass their minimum requirements and result in the format of rejection you received.

psychology is a very oversubscribed course in general, so it’s possible that the competition had higher predicted. i’d emil just to make sure though
