Can I still go to uni without having my final grades in time?

I have a conditional offer (the offer being I need to pass my course) for UEA.

I’m doing an access to higher education diploma, that isn’t due to finish until 5th August. Although I will get my official unit grades (therefore showing my pass) immediately, I will not get my certificate or “official grade” until September-November.

I have emailed the uni to check what their stance would be here, but now I’m anxious. I won’t be going to uni in September because I won’t have my grades in time 😭
This is really up to the uni in question, as some might be willing to provisionally enrol you whilst you await your final docs.

Thankyou, I did think as much.

It’s just a nervous wait now whilst I await their response. I could attempt to finish my course earlier by the proper deadlines but it would mean doing 8 units in two/ three months😭

As with A levels, if you have a copy of your final results or they are sent to Uni via UCAS, the Uni can make their decision - they dont need the 'certificate'. Most Unis use 31 August as a final results deadline, but can be flexible in individual cases so definitely worth contacting the Uni to discuss this. When you say 'finish' - do you mean final exams, or the end of term, or something else?

my final unit submission is due 5th August.

The awarding bodies for actual final grading is only done twice a year, in June/July and between September- November . Those are the only opportunities I’ll have to get my certificate as they will confirm my final grades.

Therefore, I won’t get my official grade until after uni starts, and as my work won’t have been submitted to the awarding body yet, I’m concerned that may mean I’m not able to start uni.

I will have my individual grades for the whole course, which will confirm my pass, but not “officially”

You need to contact UEA admissions and explain this situation to them, and ask for their advice.

Hiya! Definitely get in contact with Admissions if you haven't already. Here is their contact page just in case and there's also a Live Chat option if a team member is available, so that might reduce some of the wait time.

It's so difficult to play the waiting game so I really sympathise with you! But definitely talk to Admissions; I did on my Open Day and it was so relieving when they told me they would take me even if I didn't get the required grades.

I've got my fingers crossed for you, and if you don't hear from them please let me know and I will try and chase this. In the meantime, if you have any questions about UEA please let me know 😊

All the best,
UEA Rep Grace
