Moving House before Maintenance Loan

Is there any issue with moving in with another parent before applying for the maintenance loan, if this would entitle you to a greater loan?

After researching student finance, it seems to be based on who you are living with (unless you live independently) but some things have talked about whichever parent you have more contact with or who financially supports you. I'm unsure if this means I should still apply using the household income of the parent I currently live with (Parent 1), or the parent I will be living with when applying (Parent 2), as I'd only have been living with them for a few months before moving out for university. As Parent 1 has historically fit the criteria of having more contact and providing more support, I'm worried if this would be considered fraudulent if I move in with Parent 2, whom would then fit those criteria whilst I'm making my loan application.

(For context, we'd already discussed me possibly moving in after college, before we understood this could affect my loan application. I'm also unsure where I would go back during term breaks, as I'd be happy to just go back to my new home, if necessary to avoid fraud claims, but I'd prefer to visit both, just seeing who is more convenient to be with at the time)

Hi there,

You can change what sponsor you use. Does parent 2 have a partner and live with someone or are they single?

Thanks, Drew

Both parents have partners, but I considered their combined income when calculating the expected loan

Hi there,

You would need to upload a cover letter advising that you want to change your sponsor. You should also include your full name and customer reference number on the cover letter. You would need to get sponsor 2 and there partner to complete the PFF2 form and this can then all be uploaded from your online account. You can get the PFF2 form from the Gov.UK website.

Thanks, Drew
