Stuck on choosing a uni course – any advice? (Maths/Physics/Chem + Welsh Bacc)

Hi everyone!
I’m in Year 12 (going into Year 13 soon 😬) studying Maths, Physics, Chemistry, and Welsh Bacc. The problem is… I still have NO IDEA what to study at uni! I’ve been scrolling through course lists for ages, but nothing’s clicking. I really enjoy the maths side of things, but my school doesn’t offer fm, which is a bit frustrating. 😞
Are there any degrees you’d recommend based on my subjects? I’m a girl not sure if that matters, but open to hearing about female-friendly fields!

Thanks in advance! 😊

Your subjects generally would look at degrees such as Maths (not many unis actually need further maths), Engineering, Phyics, Chemistry. I know STEM is generally regarded as male dominated, but it has had such a focus on women in STEM over the last few years that it has become a lot more female-friendly. 90% of my friends who are girls have applied to STEM degrees this year, it is getting better!

Within these subkects there can be even more variety. Like Engineering = Aeronautical, Mechanical, Electrical, Design, Biomedical, Chemical etc.

You can even look at non-stem degrees, for example Law, which at many unis don't have set a level subjects

I'd suggest going to open days, UCAS fairs etc. to look at different courses and have taster sessions. Go to webinars giving tasters of subjects you may be interested in. Also remember a gap year is an option, don't rush into a degree after year 13 for the sake of doing one. Choose one when you know what you'd like to do and what career path it will lead to

Hiya!

Choosing subjects is really tough! I definitely struggled with choosing what I wanted to study for university haha. I would recommend having a look at the types of degrees people on this thread have suggested, going to universities' course pages and looking at their modules. It can really help to read through them and see if that's the kind of thing you'd be interested in. I found that looking at course lists wasn't very helpful, as sometimes the actual content of the degrees is much more than the title!

Also use TSR forums to your advantage - there are lots of forums on here describing their experiences of taking a certain subject. I used this as well for choosing what to do - personally, I found other people's experiences super helpful in helping me decide
