Marine and natural history photography portfolio

Hiya I am wanting to do marine and natural history photography at Falmouth university I am going to apply to start in 2026 but I want to prepare. Is there anyone on here that applied to this course if so what did you get asked to provide in your portfolio?

Hey Evée. Just been offered a place on MNHP at Falmouth for 2026, so happy to help with any questions.

I wasn't asked to include anything specific in my portfolio. I included a mix of seascapes, surf photography and animal portraits - 17 photos in total. Everything included was my personal choice, and there wasn't any set criteria / requirements. No idea if that's the case for everyone, but that was my experience.

My advice would be to spend as much time as you can between now and when you apply taking photos of the sort of stuff that interests you. I really got the sense that the academic team are looking for passion and enthusiasm, and being able to show them work and talk about subjects that you're passionate about will really help.

Have you been down to an open day yet (next one is in May)? Understand from your other posts that you're quite far away from Falmouth, but would definitely recommend trying to get down and check out the campus / facilities and meet the IoP team.

Best of luck with your application, and hopefully see you in Falmouth next year!

Hey Chris, I'm really curious about the portfolio aspect itself, did you present it during an interview online and if so how did you talk through it and do you remember any questions that they asked?
