Choosing Firm and Insurance.

I have an offer from Oxford for History (AAA) and was obviously going to firm this.

I also have an offer from Uni of Warwick for History (AAA) and a reduced offer from Uni of Liverpool (BBC)

(I also have offers from Uni of Notts & Glasgow but not gonna consider these ones)

I don’t know whether for my insurance to put Warwick, or Liverpool. I have heard of many people getting into Warwick even if they done meet their grades. However, worst case scenario I don’t meet Oxford grades and therefore also don’t meet Warwick and they don’t let me in.

But - so many people have said they miss their grades (say I got AAB) yet still get into Warwick.

Also, I could technically do clearing if Warwick doesn’t let me in IF i miss the grades.

I don’t know what to do though.

Any advice?

It depends on what you think you are likely to get. What are your predicted grades? What do you predict your grades will be?

If you think AAA is quite borderline for you, then maybe theres a decent chance you slip by two grades if you get unlucky on the day, and maybe Liverpool is a good safety. If you are expecting to get higher than AAA, and think you're unlikely to miss your Oxford offer but if you do it will be by a small amount, then maybe Warwick is a suitable safety.

Which course do you want to do. No two History degrees are 'the same'.

Look at the optional units for both courses and for all years of each degree.
What would you choose if you went there?

What sort of Uni experience do you want?
Concrete campus in the middle of nowhere, and 2nd / 3rd year living in Coventry?
Or older Uni in the middle of a vibrant busy student city with tons to do?

Go to Offer Holder visit days at both, look around critically, ask student questions about they like about being at that Uni, and then do some careful thinking. You have until June to make this decision - and you gain nothing by rushing into a panicky decision that you later regret.

Predicted 3 A*S, think I can defo meet 3 As (Im guessing I’ll get A*AA if all goes well) but if things were to go badly I think it’d be AAB

Thing is though, its not confirmed that Warwick would allow me in if I slip by one grade, as they’re the same as Oxford, AAA

Sounds like you should be fine getting AAA, but it makes sense to consider a safety carefully anyway. Warwick's leniency might depend on the subject that you get a B in, it might cause an issue if it is History, but if it's something else I think they are likely to accept you.

The offer rate for history is very high, so I don't think it's the kind of competitive course that Warwick will not let you in if you miss the grades by one. I have no idea what kind of response you'd get, but maybe it's worth sending an email to warwick admissions for their opinion?
