How to get a 9 in GCSE Maths

I really need a 9 in GCSE maths. Howver you can only drop an average of 12 marks per paper. I really struggle with the 4 and 5 mark questions at the back not to mention silly mistakes ect in other parts of the paper. It seems impossible. how can I achieve it??

If the back of the paper is what you struggle with I advise targeting your practice on maths questions near the back of the paper.
Then using the mark scheme to mark and understand why you lost marks and how the question could be approached. Then reattempt the question from the start without the mark scheme until you get full marks.
If you know what topics are involved - practising those topics help too!

If you have any more questions do ask, but I hope this helps xx

You might find it helpful to use Maths genie (www.mathsgenie.co.uk) and go to the grade 8/9 questions as these are the more difficult topics which will come up at the end of your paper.

Hi @lillieg0045

I would recommend reading the questions carefully and highlighting the key information. Then practise answering the questions quickly but accurately. This should help you to avoid making 'silly mistakes'.

Like others have said, practise answering longer questions and use mark schemes to identify where you could get extra marks. Try to make sure that you are confident with all of the topics that could come up.

Hope that helps!

Hi I took maths in y10 and got a 9. Honestly practice is my main recommendation, if you think you have gaps in your knowledge causing you to lose marks then pull up the specification and RAG (red amber green) it. Then go to mathsgenie or corbettmaths (both lifesavers) and do the videos + practice questions on that specific topic.
If you want a 9 in maths, you have to start now because unlike most other subjects you can't really 'cram' for it, it takes practice
