Pros and cons of University of Liverpool, Manchester and Leeds for law

Hello,

I've received offers from the University of Liverpool for law with a year abroad, University of Leeds for law and University of Manchester for law with international study. However, I cannot decide which one should be my firm so could anyone who is attending or have attended these unis give me some pros and cons?

Thank you

Have you been to Open Days at each of these Unis, or do you intend to go to their Offer Holder visit days?

People will laugh but imo Liverpool is the best uni in the world. Uni is all preference to you, yes it matters "how good it is" but once you get past the like top 20 rankings and Russel group they're all basically the same besides the Oxbridge/LSE/Imperial.

May be biased as I live close to Liverpool and most of my mates go there too, but genuinely a good uni that has great opportunities and is respected by employers, amazing nightlife, cheaper accommodation, cheap living prices. Trust me once you live in the city you wont want to leave there, its amazing and just so much fun.

I've been to University of Manchester and Leeds open days, however, I'm not able to go to Liverpools offer holder days. I've liked Manchester and Leeds equally but because I haven't been to Liverpool I'm not sure what it's actually like. The reason why I'm considering Liverpool though is because it has the specific course I want to do - Law with a year abroad. Which is making the decision difficult for me.

Thank you! What type of opportunities are available and what accommodation would you recommend?

You could just go and walk around the Liverpool campus area any time you like, just to get a feel for it.

Hi,

Firstly, I think it's important to note that all three are great uni, and I'm sure you'll have a fantastic time wherever you end up choosing. I cannot comment on Leeds, but feel I can provide some insight into Liverpool and Manchester.

I went to Liverpool and studied Law with Accounting & Finance. I absolutely loved my time at Liverpool, both the uni/course and the city. I don't have any experience with Manchester Uni, but I've lived and worked in Manchester for nearly 2 years. From a student perspective, I think Liverpool is a far more attractive city. It's smaller and more approachable than Manchester. It's cheaper and I found the people to be much friendlier, plus the night-out are better IMO.

That being said, If you're looking to enter into the legal profession upon graduating, Manchester will give you an edge. It won't be the deciding factor, and you won't be necessarily barred from the legal profession because you went to Liverpool, but I'd image because of Manchester's national and international reputation, you'd be in a better position having attended Manchester.

I think it ultimately depends on what you're hoping to get out of uni. If you're purely looking at it from a career development perspective, Manchester is probably your best bet. If you're looking to get involved in the whole 'uni experience', whilst also attending a semi-target uni, Liverpool would be the choice (IMO).

Support!

Trust yourself, not rankings and league tables, in choosing the uni to attend.

Hi,

A few things really....

1.

Most of the popular clubs and bars are all located in Concert Square and the adjacent streets - Manchester conversely is far more spread out (NQ, Deansgate, Spinngfields, etc)

2.

Prices. I'm not 100% sure what the prices are like now but when I was there (2 years ago) a double in most Liverpool clubs was between around £7 ish. Nowadays in Manchester you'll be paying £10 minimum.

3.

I remember Liverpool having a much more fun, playful atmosphere at clubs and bars, whereas the clubs and bars in Manchester can sometimes have a bit of a tense atmosphere

4.

Liverpool clubs and bars seem to stay open a lot later than Manchester. A lot of the places I go to now in Manchester seem to close around 1 - 2 am, whereas most clubs in Liverpool will still be going at 4am, with some staying open till 6/7 am.

Hope this helps
